When the decree was read aloud, the men froze, their fears silenced by awe.

It was late evening hen I finally honored the builders who had raised my tower with love and dedication.

Gold bars that could buy fortunes and soon fill their homes with food were now theirs, along with a decree that their bloodlines would forever be favored by my descendants.

They deserved every bit of it.

Looking at Anahita, I caught the small smile playing at her lips. I had never seen her so happy

or content.

I exhaled heavily and raked my fingers through my hair. Baron was still waiting for instructions when I heard the sound of carriage wheels outside.

“Lycan?” Her tone sharpened, drawing my gaze away. But she tilted my chin, forcing me to meet her eyes. “Lycan… are you alright?”

She looked worried, and I hated that for her, not now, not when she was this happy.

“I’m fine. Don’t worry,” I murmured. “Just tired.”

She sighed softly, placing a kiss on my forehead.
