I am so clueless on how to feel, on what to do and I fear all this will implicate the relationship I have with Lycannar.
Just as the Lycans welcome the wounded and homeless demons, so did she come pouring salt into our open wounds.
Kacla. Kaela Yadev.
Who would have thought her mother was Uncle Dareth’s mistress? We were all stunned when they both walked in, and Aunt Eiryn who was already busy attending to the chaos was called upon alongside her children.
It didn’t take long before the long dining hall filled up. Caclan, the eldest son, still held the divorce decree in hand.
“Everyone,” Uncle Dareth began proudly, “I present to you the woman you have all been waiting for. She has come to make an announcement that…”
“Bring the divorce decree,” Lycannar’s voice cut through his uncle’s words. He turned to Chantel standing in the shadows. “Bring me my royal seal.”
“Your Majesty, you’re not listening!” his uncle barked angrily, but I barely heard them. My gaze was on Kaela.
She was looking around, scanning everyone and everything, relishing the chaos like she had been expecting it.
As though she had come here for one purpose which is to witness our downfall firsthand. When her gaze finally settled, a faint, wicked smile curled at the corner of her lips.
My gods. She knows.
“Before you stamp any decree,” Dareth continued sharply, “you should know my woman is not leaving this kingdom. And I won’t be leaving my house for Eiryn. She is the first wife, yes, but this woman will be my second. Her daughter, Kaela, will be your cousin and share in the royal rights, just like the rest of us.”
I blinked, realizing just what I’d missed.
Kaela, cunning, manipulative Kaela, was doing what she did best. She knew how to worm her

way into someone’s life and inheritance, hijacking it. Just as she had done to the Blackbridge Pack. Just as she had stolen Nyroth then.
And now, she wanted a share of the Lycan royal bloodline?
“I’m afraid that will be impossible.”
The Queen’s voice broke through the tension. Everyone turned as she stepped further into the hall, wiping blood from her fingers.
She had been tending to the wounded from the Demon Realm’s ruin, and yet, even in that state, her authority was unshakable.
“The royalties of Lycans do not come with infidelity, Dareth,” she said coldly.
“You’re one to talk,” he sneered. “The princesses aren’t even true blood. What do you know about fidelity, my Queen?”
“Keep your tone calm, Uncle Dareth.“This time, it was Hades who spoke, his voice sharp as a blade. “Choose your words carefully and show respect to my mother. We’re all in a foul mood. Read the room, or pay for it dearly.”
I had to pause, even holding my breath. Kaela swallowed hard.
Hades was not like Lycannar. I could calm Lycannar when rage overtook him, but Hades was a different story entirely. He is colder, sharper, and far less forgiving.
Chantel returned with the royal seal, handing it to Lycannar, who didn’t hesitate. He was aboout to stamp the decree when the revelation came, abrupt, shocking.
“I am carrying your uncle’s pup.”
The room froze. I looked up sharply at her.
Kaela’s mother had just declared she was pregnant with Uncle Dareth’s child?
“I am pregnant for him,” she continued boldly, “and you will accept this pup into the royal family, whether you like it or not…”
“So bold of you to come here, lying in the open, Xing.”
The voice came from the doorway. Luna Tahlia.
Everyone turned to her as she strode in, eyes locked on Kaela’s mother, on Xing. It was clear they knew each other well since she know her name.

“Your deceit won’t work tonight,” Tahlia said icily. “You bewitched the Lycan King’s advisor, sold your body for his favor, and now, just as you wormed your way to make your worthless. husband Beta of the Blackbridge Pack before he became Alpha, you’re trying to steal this kingdom too?”
Kaela’s jaw tightened in anger, her eyes burning with fury as her plans began to unravel.
“You know nothing, Tahlia! And what gives you the right to speak here?”
“She is my woman,” Hades‘ voice thundered, and again, the entire hall went silent. “Just for the record. And watch your tone when you address her.”
Kaela paled, her confidence shattering. Her mother looked around helplessly, realizing she had no more ground to stand on.
Kaela, who had long claimed to be pregnant with Alpha Black’s child, still had no baby bump after months. It was all lies.
Seeing the argument had become meaningless, Lycannar pressed the royal seal onto the decree, finalizing the divorce between his aunt and uncle. Then he leaned back in his chair, exhausted.
“Leave my kingdom,” he said, calmly, lethally calm.
Everyone knew what that tone meant. Chantel was already poised to act, his mysterious bodyguard equally ready.
Kaela and her mother saw defeat. Uncle Dareth realized he’d lost this round. They turned toward the exit, but as Kaela passed Luna Tahlia in the doorway, she stopped, meeting her eyes and whispering just loud enough for me to hear with my heightened senses.
“You won’t last long, Tahlia. There won’t be a happy ending for you.”
And with that, she left, her mother following her out of the Lycan Kingdom.
A heavy silence lingered in the hall. Gradually, everyone dispersed, tending to the wounded and the broken.
That was when Blue walked in. She carried something small in her palm, Ravana, Lycannar’s raven. Lifeless.
Since the witch Ilythra’s death, Ravana’s bond had severed too. Lycannar’s oldest companion, his loyal, talking raven that always perched on his shoulder, giving him that air of authority,
was gone.

Blue placed the tiny body on the table before him, and my heart sank to the very bottom of my chest.
For all that it cost, for all that it ruined… in this war, Varyn Ashmere, my brother, had won.
