I turned around to see Hades standing in the doorway, as though waiting for permission to
enter.
“Blue told me you’re feeling weak and plan to rest,” he said. I nodded, starting to rise from the bed, but he stepped inside, gently pressing me back down and pulling the coverlet over me.
“Carrying the pup of the first hybrid must be exhausting. You should rest. My sisters and Tahlia will keep you company. I need to stay with my father, make sure he recovers.”
I nodded at his warm concern, his tenderness making my chest ache. Those striking eyes of his softened, and I reached for his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.
“Thank you for loving Lycan,” I murmured, my voice low with gratitude. “Your love and acceptance mean so much to him. I appreciate it.”
He looked at me quictly, then smiled faintly.
“Thank you for saving Tahlia. You brought her to me and now she completes me. I owe you for that.”
He leaned down, kissed my temple, then rose and walked out. I watched his powerful retreat with a swelling heart.
Yes. Perhaps this was fate after all, everything intertwined, the gods‘ intricate work.
I sank back into the pillow, sighing softly. My eyes lifted to where the painting once was, the sketch of my face, but the canvas was gone, destroyed in the crash.
A small smile touched my lips at the memory of Lycannar’s effort, how hard he tried to please me. He had won, in the end. My heart belonged to no one but him.
I was still lost in thought when the sound of footsteps and laughter drifted in. Moments later, Princess Mearez appeared, followed by Luna Tahlia.
“Hades said once everything is settled, he’ll return to his realm and start rebuilding,” Luna Tahlia said as she paused at the doorway. “With the damage I heard about, I wonder how long
it’ll take.”
“Let’s hope for the best.”

Princess Mearez entered fully, smiling.

“And the pregnant woman is weak,” she teased, settling on the chair. “The gods, I can’t believe Lycannar made you this full and tired. When are you telling him about the pup?”
I was about to reply when I noticed Tahlia still hesitating at the threshold. I raised a brow, and she shrugged.
“It’s the King’s bedchamber…”
“Come in,” Princess Mearez said lightly. “Don’t be too polite. You’re part of this family now, especially after being claimed by my brother.”
She smiled shyly and joined us, sitting beside Princess Mearez. Her gaze lingered on me.
“How do you feel?” she asked softly.
“Weak,” I admitted. “Maybe because I need my man.”
“He’ll come back to you soon. You’re very lucky,” she said, making me smile. Then her expression flickered. “We were lucky we acted fast. If not, Kaela and her mother would’ve been royalty by now.”
“My brother would never allow that,” Princess Mearez replied. “Isn’t she the one who killed your mother?”
Luna Tahlia sighed deeply.
“The very same. The one who used to threaten me openly. I’m just glad Young Black won’t grow up around her. If anything ever happens to me, he should stay with Hades. They’ve bonded.”
Mearez and I exchanged a sad smile.
“Nothing will happen,” I said softly. “Let’s just hope for the best.”
“Says our warrior,” Mearez murmured. “You should rest. We’ll stay here.”
I nodded, comforted by their warmth. My eyes drifted shut, and wrapped in that feeling of peace, safety, and fulfillment, I fell asleep.

The first groan didn’t wake me, but the second did. I blinked my eyes open, scanning the room. Princess Mearez and Luna Tahlia were asleep, their heads resting on the table. I sighed,

abom to close my eyes again, then suddenly I froze.
Another sound. A low groan. My gaze slid toward Luna Tahlia and my breath caught.
Blood.

A dark stream trickled from between her thighs, down her legs. My heart plummeted. I jerked upright, startling Princess Mearez awake. She looked at me, confused, until she saw my face, then I pointed silently toward the chair.
Princess Mearez turned, expecting to see her stirring, but no, Luna Tahlia’s head still rested on the table. The blood was pooling beneath her chair. Then, slowly, her body tilted, losing balance.
I caught her before she hit the ground, lowering her gently.
“What’s happening to her?” My voice trembled; I hadn’t realized I was shaking.
Mearez rushed to her side, pressing her fingers to her wrist. Whatever she felt there made her eyes widen in panic. She lifted Luna Tahlia upright, calling to her wolf, trying to rouse her, but suddenly the body went limp in her arms.
I stumbled back, horrified. Cold dread seeped into my bones.
Princess Mearez, born with the power to restore health, the most gifted healer I’d ever known, had never failed before. But this time… she did.
Luna Tahlia died in her arms.
And when our cries broke the silence, the entire bedchamber filled with chaos.
