Instead of responding, he merely looked me over, then asked again.

“Lycan…” I began, but he had already left the bath chamber, moving out with deliberate steps.

For a few heartbeats, I stood frozen, my pulse hammering. Then I rushed after him, down the stairs, bursting into the dining hall.

Swiftly, I blocked his path, desperate to know where he was going.

My heart plummeted. Zyrrha? Who was that? Why did he speak of a battle as though he had been there? Or… was he there?

“Lycan…” I called again, moving to follow him, but a voice stopped me.
