Chapter 235
Zephyrine
“Alpha Zephyrine, the ring will be ready in an hour. My master asked if you wish for anything to be engraved.”
I met his gaze and nodded, my pulse thrumming.
“The Ashmere crest… and the drop of blood I have provided.”
He bowed and left, footsteps fading, while my hands trembled as I turned toward the stable.
This was no mere token. This was sacred. The drop of my blood. The very essence of me sealed into sacred white jade, binding my soul to his. I had decided. I would make it official. I would claim Lycannar as he had claimed me.
With this ring, forged with the blood I had willingly offered, we would be bound heart, body, and soul. An unbreakable tether that no force in the realms could sever.
My chest ached and my heartbeat surged, knowing that this act was more than ritual. It was a declaration, raw and eternal, that I was his, and he was mine.
One thing about being an Ashmere warrior is that we don’t live only for ourselves. We live for those who follow and obey us.
Like now. I was supposed to be somewhere else, but here I am in the stable, leaning against the wall, watching Lycannar’s horse and imagining him on it.
It had been four days since I returned in a hurry to my pack, and the good news was that after his outburst, Varyn had finally taken his health seriously.
He was recovering, and his wolf had begun to reform into the enigmatic, powerful one he
once was.
Dessyn had stayed behind. The gods blessed her soul and heart. Moon had stayed, but he had to go to Moonveil Fortress to complete his summer training.
Blue and Isolde had remained true, making the tension ease much better.
I was lost in thought when I heard a neigh from ahead. My horse and Lycannar’s. They are mates, my man had told me, but seeing them together in one stable was strangely… tender.
I lowered my gaze from their display of devotion and turned to head back to my bedchamber,

where I had sealed myself for days. But when I stepped into the hall, I found Jurrek waiting.
I bypassed him and headed in anyway, but at the last moment, he reached for my wrist, stopping me.
“Zephyr.” He called quietly, and I turned narrowly. I hadn’t forgiven him for what he had done. No. Not so easily.
“You have news?” I asked curtly. He searched my eyes for what seemed like an eternity before sighing.
“The elders are waiting at the meeting hall. They wish to speak with you,” he said, glancing briefly at me. “Your aunt’s husband, Lord Yua, also seeks an audience.”
I nodded and pulled my wrist free from his clutch. I decided to hear the elders out first. My uncle can wait till my brother recover.
Now, after accepting Lycannar’s ring, I felt lazy about pack affairs. It was Varyn’s task, after all, and he should shoulder it, not me. Not me at all.
I pushed open the hall door to see them all seated. Immediately, they rose, but I wasn’t interested. The last time I was here, bound and constrained, they had turned away from me. I had no patience for their hypocrisy now.
I walked to the chair and settled after Jurrek pulled it out for me, resting my elbow on the
table.
“Yes?” I asked, almost distastefully. One of the elders reached for a report and passed it to me.
“Alpha Zephyrine, the pack is at the edge of famine. It has been five Long years since we have traded with neighboring packs. Our supplies are exhausted, and…”
“Then make trades,” I cut him off, yawning. “I said on the day of my ascension ceremony that trade should be open. Jurrek, see to it. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”
I rose to leave, but an elder stopped me.
“You did not take the seat of an Alpha for the people, did you?” Slowly, I turned to the elder who questioned me. “The vow you made when you ascended the throne, did you not believe in it? You took the seat for something else, did you not?”
Silence fell as I scanned them all.
“You’ve got me,” I admitted. “Actually, I took the seat to save my brother. Now that he is here, once he recovers, he will take back the seat that is rightfully his.”
