I’m happy. Excited for Young Black and Luna Tahlia for almost regaining what is theirs. I’m glad to see she has gotten along with the Blood family, and I am happy to see Lycannar once again.
Yet, in a hidden corner of my heart, something feels strange. I cannot place it, but there is a weight, a whisper, that something is amiss.
I have showed Dessyn my ring and she had been happy for me as always. After telling her my farewell, and that I’d be back in nt Ike I have ride out alone.
“Won’t you eat your meal?” The question came from Princess Mearez, and I snapped back to reality to realize I am still here, seated in the dining hall with Lycannar’s family.
I sighed shakily and nodded in obedience. But just as I was about to comply, a gentle tug stirred in my heart. I bowed my head and murmured an excuse.
“I’ll wash my hands and return.”
Without waiting for another word, I stepped back, ascending toward the stairs and the tower. I arrived in the hall, breathing shakily, swallowing hard.
Unsteady. Drained. Why? Why does this dull pain clutch my heart, making it hard to breathe?
“You okay?”
The voice jolted me. I snapped my gaze up, stunned. Chantel. I blinked. Could it be? Did he just speak to me?
He stood at the end of the hall, mysterious and ominous as ever,
I cleared my throat quickly, but before I could respond, Lycannar appeared behind him, eyes

“You okay?” he also asked, his voice edged with concern. I smiled faintly.
“Of course. I only wanted to wash my hands and…”
“She’s not well.” Chantel cut me off, shattering my cover. My head snapped toward him in disbelief. “She came breathing less. Pale.”

His words left me bare before my man. He opened his door and slipped away, leaving me stunned, regret burning.
Be careful what you wish for. I had longed to hear Chantel to speak, but now I regretted it.
I bit my lower lip and slowly turned back to Lycannar. He was still staring, waiting. My lips trembled.
“I am fine, Lycannar. You have nothing to…”
“Did I ask for an explanation?” His voice cracked like a whip, harsh enough to make me swallow.
Without another word, he left me standing there, walking toward the living room, then across to his bedchamber. I followed, unable to bear his rejection now.
“You… you’re not eating dinner?” I asked casually, as though nothing had happened in the hall. He looked at me blank at first. Then his gaze softened. He crossed to a chair and sat.
“How’s your brother?” he asked gently, and I exhaled.
“Varyn is getting better,” I murmured. Then, hesitating, I added, “Lycan… you know my aunt works with the Yadevs and the Council members?”
He stayed silent, simply watching, as though he knew more was coming.
“I… I killed a maid, Lycan. She was spying for my aunt. I slit her throat. Since then, I feel unsteady. Like… I did wrong.”
“You did wrong,” Lycannar said immediately, and I stared at him. “For feeling guilty.”
He leaned back, shrugging, his voice rough but firm.
“You eliminated a spy and feel guilt? Do you think they would feel guilty if they succeeded, if they killed you instead?”
I bit my lip, silent. His hand extended toward me. I placed mine into his palm, and he pulled me closer, drawing me onto his lap. Gently, he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, his eyes warm as they searched mine.
“If politics exhaust you… perhaps we should relocate to a quiet place, wife.” His voice lowered, hoarse, intimate. “Just you, me, and our pups because we will find a way, and we will have them. Me as only your husband. You as only my wife. No burdens. No crowns. Only us.”
His words cracked something open in me. A part that had yearned for them. I lowered my
