I wake up slowly, my eyes fluttering open to see him seated across the room at his writing desk.
Lycannar.
His gaze is fixed on me as though I’m a piece of art he can’t stop admiring.
For a while, neither of us speaks. The silence between us says all the words we cannot. I’ve heard his name whispered in fear and awe. I’ve learned his truth, his secrets, and yet I love him more for them. I’ve accepted every part of him, wanted him more deeply. No regrets. No doubts.
A small smile curves my lips.
“Good morning.”
He rises from the chair, crossing the room with that steady, graceful power of his. Sitting beside me on the bed, he reaches out to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. His eyes soften as they meet mine.
“How are you feeling?” he asks gently.
I take a moment to listen to my body. I feel tired, a little dizzy even after waking but otherwise fine. Wait… fine?
“I’m hungry,” I murmur, still half–drowsy.
His lips twitch into a smile.
“I’ll ask the maids to bring you breakfast.”
He starts to rise, but I catch his hand, holding his palm against mine.
“Stay with me. Food can wait.”
Lycannar exhales softly and sits back down. His hair is damp. He must’ve just bathed.
“How long have I been asleep?” I ask quietly.
“Since yesterday,” he replies, brushing his thumb along my cheek. “I was worried I might’ve

gone too hard on you yesterday when I made love to you, but my sister said you were just exhausted.”
His words bring a flush to my cheeks, and he smiles when he sees it.
“I probably have morning breath,” I mumble, trying to turn away, but he leans in to kiss me
anyway.
“Silly,” he murmurs against my lips before pulling back, though there’s something different in his eyes now, something hesitant.
“What’s wrong?” I ask.
He shakes his head, but I can feel the lie. I try to pull my hand away, but he holds on tighter, his expression torn between fear and resolve.
“I….. I don’t want to sound rushed,” he begins, his voice low. “I know the war isn’t over yet. I know you still have things to mend with your brother and your world, but…”
My heartbeat quickens. Whatever he’s about to say means something.
“Zephyrine,” he says finally, taking a breath, “let’s get married.”
The words hang in the air between us. His voice trembles slightly as he adds, “Let’s marry next full moon. Right after I introduce you to my father, on the same day, if he accepts. Please.”
Silence falls. I stare at him, searching for understanding, for the reason he loves me this fiercely, this desperately. But maybe love doesn’t need a reason. Maybe if it did, it wouldn’t be real. Because reasons can fade.
I lower my gaze, not in hesitation but in quiet acceptance. It’s time. I’ve wandered every corner of this empire, yet no place has ever felt like home except here, with him. Even the Ash Pack feels haunted, my bed there filled with nightmares.
When I look up again, I nod softly.
“Yes. Let’s get married.”
He goes still, almost afraid to breathe.
“Next full moon,” he repeats, his voice hushed. “That’s in less than five days. You’ll be my wife, and…”
“Yes,” I say again, smiling faintly. “Let’s be man and wife.”

For a moment, he simply stares, then bursts into motion. He rushes to his desk, pulling out parchment and ink.
1 raise an eyebrow, clutching the blanket around my chest.
“You’re writing?”
“To my mother,” he says, already scribbling with quick, cager strokes. “She’s at the far end of the Lycan Kingdom. I have to tell her about our marriage.”
His tone carries a rare happiness. When he’s done, he seals the letter and calls out a name.
“Chantel.”
His ever–mysterious bodyguard appears, bowing low.
“Deliver this to my mother,” Lycannar orders. “With respect. You know how strict she is.”
Chantel nods, takes the letter, and silently departs.
I’m still watching the door when I feel Lycannar return to the bed. I turn, and he’s smiling at me, grateful, soft.
“Thank you,” he says simply, his grin lighting his face.
