Chapter 521: Two Down

The light was blinding.

And Luca had to squint just to see.

At first, there was nothing but that bright white light, but slowly, as his eyes adjusted, he noticed how the light started receding.

Then condensing.

It drew inward, swirling until it formed something small and spherical, pulsing faintly in the dark.

"Huh?" Luca murmured, his voice faint as he stared at it.

___

Meanwhile, back in the medical bay, the air in the room had grown unbearably heavy.

Xavier pressed forward, his steps measured as he pushed through the oppressive force of Luca’s wild spiritual energy.

But as the concerned lover pushed on, against the far wall, Duke Leander and Duchess Amelia stood side by side, their own barrier barely holding as they watched Xavier wade closer to their son.

The Duke scowled, his chest tight with worry and his fists clenched at his sides.

Every nerve in his body screamed at him to rush in, to pull his son into his arms and shield him from what clearly pains him.

But he couldn’t.

Not when the first and last time they attempted to reach and console him, they only made things worse.

And now...now Luca was trapped deeper than before, and they were powerless to help.

Duke Leander’s gaze locked on Xavier who he noticed was moving steadily towards his precious son.

What was he thinking?!

If something happens to him and Luca finds out, his son would definitely be sad! 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

"Hey! You shouldn’t—"

But his wife cut him off, her usually calm voice laced with anxiousness and steel.

"If anything," she said sharply, "he’s our best chance right now. And while you probably have a mountain of complaints, save them for when our son recovers. We’re going to have a family meeting. A very long one!"

The recovering husband froze, his mouth falling open slightly as he stared at her.

But his wife didn’t look at him. Her eyes stayed fixed on their son, her knuckles white as she tried keeping it together.

She probably should’ve said more, appeased her husband who was likely still recovering, but now was seriously not the time for it. Because it would be far worse for them to act on whim when reckless violence would risk their son’s already tethered life.

There was no changing that fact. And so she hoped he’d understand what she meant.

But of course...

He didn’t.

Or perhaps he’d been in such deep obliviousness and denial that it hadn’t even registered.

So his brows furrowed deeply as though he forgot what actually sent him to the medical bay in the first place.

But just as he watched Xavier reach for his precious son, his mind once again spun.

And then—

It hit him.

His eyes went wide, his breath catching audibly as the pieces finally, finally fell into place.

After months of blissful ignorance, months of failing to notice the little signs, the skinship, the domination, their unusual relationship—the truth hit him like a spiritual sledgehammer.

His hands shot out, one finger stabbing toward Xavier in sheer horror, the other flailing toward his son as his voice cracked:

"HIM?! HIM?!"

Amelia finally turned her head, her sigh so heavy it was nearly a groan.

She didn’t even look at him as she muttered, "Did you seriously think it would be someone else?!"

Leander’s spine stiffened as though he’d just been stabbed through the chest.

He opened his mouth to retort, but no sound came out.

He’d always known they had a relationship, after all, his major concern had been his son’s behavior when it came to dominating a partner, but—but...he never thought it would end up like this?!

Was it foul play?! A baby trap?!

But that’s not possible, right? Not when even they almost failed to have a child!

So was it really marriage?

Marriage.

Marriage?

Marriage?!

But to his horror, it wasn’t just marriage. For as if in slow motion, and as if witnessing his life pass before his eyes, Duke Leander watched as the truth unfolded before his eyes.

He watched Xavier close the final distance, his hand reaching for Luca, then it happened.

Their spiritual energies met.

Not clashing.

Not resisting.

But entwining, slowly weaving into each other with a terrifying grace, as though the threads had always belonged to the same loom.

Leander’s eyes widened in shock, his breath catching in his throat as the realization slammed into him.

This was not just some marriage.
