Chapter 22
Chapter 22
Ethan figured a girl’s stamina had its limits.
He believed these college freshmen probably spent their summer glued to their phones, not breaking a sweat.
Briar? Two laps, maybe, before she’d be done.
Three minutes later, there she was again, jogging hack like it was nothing.
Ethan froze, his jaw tightening in disbelief. “Hey, stop!”
Briar slowed to a stop, cool as ever, not a bead of sweat on her. “What’s up, sir?” she asked with a lazy grin.
Ethan’s temples throbbed like a drum. “You’re running to build discipline, not to slack off!”
“Slack off? Sir, you’re losing me here.”
Ethan sucked in a sharp breath. Did you cut through somewhere?”
Briar let out a quick laugh, then said firmly, “Nope”
“Nope!”
“What, you think I’m cheating”
Ethan’s face grew dark. He snorted. “I saw you pass by, and now you’re back in under three minutes? You’re not pulling one over on mel
Briar stood there, eyebrows raised, silent for a brat
“Speak!” Ethan barked, his voice sharp with frustration
Briar scratched her nose, all chill. “Alright. So, what’s the deal.
Ethan stared at her, totally unfazed, and knew something was up. “One more time–did you take a shortcut?”
Briar didn’t finch “Nah”
“Oh, really?” Ethan huffed. Fine. I’m running with you. If you can’t keep up.
telling your school!”
“No way she is legit, he thought. The women’s 1000–meter record is barely over two minutes. Her, under three? Get real.
Briar paused, then shrugged “Cool. Let’s roll
It was no big deal for her.
So, while the animation class stood sweating buckets in formation, they watched their drißksergeant jog alongside Briar.
It was two o’clock, sun scorching like it had a vendetta.
The kids in line were dripping, but Briar? She was gliding, breathing easy, like she was born to run.
“Hey, Coach, you keeping up?” she teased.
Briar glanced back at Ethan, who was already trailing. She slowed just to let him catch her, then zoomed ahead again
Ethan’s chest heaved, his breaths coming in short, ragged gasps.
A hardcore boot camp instructor, Ethan wasn’t about to get smoked by a jog
But Briar was fast
This was supposed to be a long run, but she was out here sprinting like it was a race.
One lapin, Ethan was gasping, barely hanging on as Briar left him in the dust.
“Wait_ hold up” he panted, his voice barely a croak.
Briar stopped, arms crossed, smirking down at Ethan, who was hunched over, fighting for air. “Still got questions, sir?”

Chapter 22
Ethan took a full two minutes to breathe right again. He eyed her up and down. “Your class. you’re all art kids, yeah?”
Yup.” Briar nodded, all casual.
“Then how’re you
Briar grinned, cocky as
as hell. I’m just built different”
Ethan stood there, mouth slightly open, too stunned to respond.
The whole class gawked at Briar like she was a freaking superhero. She ran the instructor ragged. Is this girl for real?
Erhan, sull wheezing, croaked, “Back in line!”
With the whole class staring like she was a rock star, Briar strolled to the back of the girls‘ line, cool as a cucumber.
Spotting Rhea up front, she did a double–take. No makeup? Dang
Rhea without her usual glam was, no cap, even hotter.
By day two, Limond University’s forum was poppin‘. Fresh posts about Briar were blowing up.
