The Silent Luna's Trial (Maple and Finn) novel Chapter 15

Chapter 7

Blair’s Perspective

The instant my eyelids fluttered open, the sharp, sterile scent of disinfectant invaded my senses. Above me, the heart monitor emitted a steady, rhythmic beep: “Beep… Beep… Beep…” It took a moment for the reality to sink in—I was lying in a hospital bed. Every part of my body throbbed with pain, but the worst was the crushing ache in my chest, as if someone had struck me there with a heavy, blunt object.

A soft voice interrupted my thoughts. “You’re awake?” A nurse stepped inside, her tone calm but concerned. “Your injuries are quite severe—you’ve broken three ribs. You’ll need someone to care for you. Would you like to call your family?”

She extended a phone toward me. My hand shook uncontrollably as I reached out to take it.

The screen illuminated, revealing dozens of unread messages—all from Carrie.

[Christian peeled an apple for me—it was so sweet.]

[Lysander bought me a new dress. He said red suits me best.]

[Orion and Zayden stayed with me all day for checkups. They were so worried.]

[It’s been two days. One small “I’m dizzy,” and they’re all running around me. Nobody’s asked where you went. A thief always has to repay what she stole.]

[Blair, it’s pathetic—you don’t have a single person who truly loves you. If I were you, I’d be dead by now.]

My eyes remained fixed on the screen as my fingers curled tighter, knuckles whitening with the tension.

“I don’t have family,” I whispered, voice barely audible as I handed the phone back to the nurse. “There’s just me.”

She opened her mouth, as if about to say something, but instead, she sighed softly and left the room without another word.

Outside the window, the ground was carpeted with golden sycamore leaves, gently rustling in the autumn breeze. My gaze shifted to the IV drip beside me—each drop falling slowly, like the tears I’d shed over the years, each one a fragment of love lost, discarded, and forgotten.

Five days later, I made the decision to check myself out, leaving the hospital without any assistance.

As I pushed open the door to the pack house, a wave of laughter washed over me.

Inside the living room, Christian was carefully slicing oranges for Carrie, who sat nearby. The three brothers were engaged in a lively conversation, their voices filling the room with warmth. But the moment they heard the door creak, they all turned sharply toward me, and silence fell like a heavy curtain.

“Where have you been?” Lysander’s brow furrowed deeply. “Why haven’t you come home?”

I didn’t respond. Without a word, I walked past them and headed upstairs.

From behind me, I caught Zayden’s scoffing remark. “She’s throwing another tantrum.”

I closed the bedroom door, slid down against it, and collapsed onto the floor.

Pain flared sharply in my ribs again, but it was nothing compared to the ache gnawing at my heart.

A servant brought up dinner, but I pushed the plate away untouched.

Later that night, my phone buzzed again.
