The Silent Luna's Trial (Maple and Finn) novel Chapter 18

Christian’s Point of View

“The rope broke.” Those three words hit us out of nowhere, like a sudden explosion in the quiet room. Everyone froze instantly, caught in a moment of stunned silence.

I finally found my voice, though it was tight and strained. “What rope are you talking about?”

“The one at the cliff,” Finn said, his voice shaking. “It snapped—and Blair’s gone.”

The shock crashed over us like a tidal wave, leaving our faces blank, disbelief written across each one.

Without thinking, Lysander lunged forward, grabbing Finn by the collar, his voice trembling with desperation. “What the hell did you just say?”

His eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging on his arms, as if the weight of those words was physically crushing him. It was clear he couldn’t bear to hear the truth.

Finn’s lips quivered as he whispered, “It’s true. When we got there, the rope tied to the cliff had already broken. All we found… was her jacket.”

I moved quickly, snatching the jacket from Finn’s hands. My knees nearly buckled beneath me.

It was Blair’s jacket.

The air around us seemed to freeze, thick and heavy like stone.

“Lysander… you didn’t have anyone untie her, did you?” Orion asked, eyes wide with disbelief.

Lysander’s face drained of color. “I just got back from the hospital yesterday. I…” His voice faltered, leaving the sentence unfinished, but we all understood what he meant.

Since his return, our attention had been consumed by Carrie—worried about her condition, watching her every move with anxious eyes.

Blair had always been the invisible one in the pack. No one seemed to notice her anymore, as if she had faded into the background.

“Christian, are you okay?” Carrie’s voice came softly from behind me.

I didn’t answer. I didn’t even turn around. Instead, I walked straight out the door, ordering Finn to get the car ready to head to the cliff.

Carrie hadn’t expected my silence. She stumbled, falling to the floor in surprise.

But Lysander, Orion, and Zayden didn’t rush to help her. They were all frozen, stunned and shaken by the news of Blair’s disappearance.

A maid hurried over to assist Carrie. Her face was full of hurt, as if she wanted to say something, but the three men barely glanced at her before rushing out the door.

Night had fallen by then. The ocean wind howled fiercely along the jagged cliffs, carrying a cold bite that seeped into the bones.

I stood at the very edge, staring down at the broken rope dangling above the bloodstained rocks below.

I tried to move closer, but Finn grabbed my arm firmly. “Alpha, it’s too dangerous. The wind’s strong tonight.”

I ignored his warning and stepped right up to the cliff’s edge.

Below me, darkness stretched endlessly. The only sound was the relentless crashing of waves against the rocks.
