The Silent Luna's Trial (Maple and Finn) novel Chapter 20

Chapter 12

Lysander’s Perspective

The instant Carrie returned, tears flooded her eyes, and she dashed toward the three of us, overwhelmed by everything that had unfolded earlier that day.

“Lysander, is Christian angry with me?” she choked out between sobs.

“Is Blair upset because I came back? I swear, I never meant to hurt her…” Her voice trembled with guilt and confusion.

Usually, we would have immediately moved to comfort her, to shield her from the storm of emotions she was drowning in. But this time, none of us stirred. We remained rooted in place, enveloped in a heavy silence. When her words finally ceased, we simply responded, “Carrie, go upstairs. We’re tired.”

I watched her retreat up the staircase, a knot tightening in my chest. Something inside me twisted uneasily, an instinctive warning whispering that something was wrong—something about her felt… off today.

The living room fell silent once again. The three of us sat motionless on the couch, the tension thick between us.

Finally, I broke the quiet. “This is my fault,” I admitted, voice barely above a whisper. “If it weren’t for me, Blair wouldn’t be dead.”

I dropped my head, pressing my face into my hands, trying to quell the storm raging inside me. Yet my voice betrayed me, shaking with the weight of my guilt.

When Carrie first came back, yes, we had indulged Blair a little more than usual—perhaps out of spite, or maybe to make a point. But over the years, those feelings had grown genuine. None of it was fabricated.

Now, staring at the wreckage of what had happened, I realized how wrong we had been.

Zayden’s voice broke through the silence softly. “She seemed… off earlier. Maybe we should check on her.”

I nodded, reaching for a glass of milk as we headed upstairs. But before we even reached her door, the sharp crash of breaking glass echoed down the hall.

Then came Carrie’s low, furious growl. “That bitch Blair. I thought everything would be fine once she was dead—but no, she just won’t stay gone! I don’t know what trick she pulled to get everyone so worked up over her!”

I froze mid-step, whipping my head toward my brothers.

Had I heard her right?

“She can’t even stay quiet in death!” she spat venomously.

We all held our breath, frozen outside the door.

“That bitch’s life is stubborn as hell. Snake venom didn’t kill her, the car crash didn’t finish her off…”

“But what does it matter if she survived all that? She still died in the end. And there wasn’t even a body left to bury.”

A cold shiver ran down my spine.

All those incidents—the venom, the crash—was it her? Was she the one trying to kill Blair?

My mind felt like it was shattering into a million pieces.

Everything I had believed in for all these years was crumbling.

The snake venom, the scandalous photos, even the cliff… What was the truth behind it all?

Nothing made sense anymore. Everything felt wrong.

Desperation clawed at me, like a drowning man grasping for a lifeline. I didn’t care about anything else—I flung the door open and stormed inside.

Carrie didn’t have a chance to react. That twisted expression on her face—the malice burning in her eyes—was still there.

She froze. The moment our eyes locked, I knew I could never see her as the “just a little spoiled” girl again.

The three of us loomed over her, and panic flickered across her face, but it was too late—there was nowhere left to hide.

I clenched my jaw, my voice low and burning with anger. “Carrie. What really happened with the snake venom? Did Blair really frame you?”

Her eyes darted away, clearly shaken.

But she quickly composed herself and even reached to grab my hand.

When I didn’t pull away immediately, a flicker of hope sparked in her eyes.

She slipped back into that soft, sweet voice she always used to manipulate us. “Lysander, Orion, Zayden… let me explain…”

Before she could continue, footsteps thundered from downstairs—Christian’s voice sharp and urgent.

“Where’s Carrie?”

“She went to bed, Alpha. You should come back tomorrow.”

Then we heard him rushing up the stairs.

In the next moment, Christian appeared at the door, his eyes bloodshot, rage radiating off him like a tidal wave ready to crash.
