The evening had finally arrived, and every guest had taken their place. The grand hall buzzed with anticipation and excitement.

Isadora was positively radiant, her joy impossible to contain. She kept chatting animatedly about how thrilled she was at the prospect of grandchildren, her eyes shining with hope and happiness.

I hadn’t yet shared the news with Julian, but soon enough, Isadora’s wish would come true far sooner than she imagined. Earlier that day, while Julian was caught up in a lengthy meeting, I had slipped away to visit the pack doctor. The news had been overwhelming—we were expecting triplets.

The coronation ceremony had wrapped up smoothly, and now the festivities were moving into the dinner and dance portion of the evening. Julian and I stood side by side just inside the grand ballroom’s entrance, waiting for the moment we would be announced.

As the massive doors swung wide open, I caught my father-in-law’s voice booming through the room, “I now present to you, King Julian and Queen Skyla Wexler!”

The crowd responded with a roar of applause and cheers that filled the space with warmth and celebration. My parents, along with Sebastian and Alexia, quickly made their way over and enveloped me in a loving embrace. Their words were full of admiration—they told me how breathtaking I looked and how proud they were of me.

Scanning the room, I spotted Cassian and Selene across the hall—and something was terribly wrong. They both appeared pale and disturbed, their expressions twisted with anguish and anger.

Before I could fully grasp what was unfolding, Cassian was suddenly behind me. I felt the cold press of a silver knife against my throat—the handle made of rubber to protect his hand, but the threat nevertheless unmistakable.
