The Silent Luna's Trial (Maple and Finn) novel Chapter 68

**When the Last Candle Sang to the Ocean Wind by Aurelion Kyre Solvane 68**

Evelyn and Caden sprang into action, urgency coursing through their veins as they rushed towards the scene.

Yet, the man they approached shook his head slowly, his expression a mixture of regret and frustration. “I’m sorry,” he said, his voice laced with disappointment. “He was wearing a mask and a hat. The cameras didn’t catch his face at all.”

The other three witnesses mirrored his gesture, their faces equally grim, each one indicating they had no leads to offer.

Evelyn’s expression hardened, a steely resolve replacing any hint of uncertainty. “Send me all the footage where he appears,” she commanded, her voice firm and unwavering.

As they made their way home, the weight of the evening’s events hung heavily in the air. Evelyn pulled out her phone, fingers deftly typing a message to Felicity.

“Dig into this man for me,” she instructed, her heart racing as she hit send.

“What happened?” Felicity’s voice crackled through the line, tinged with genuine concern.

Evelyn took a deep breath, her forehead creasing as she recounted the harrowing events of the night. “If Caden hadn’t shown up in time, I might have been killed,” she admitted, the gravity of her situation sinking in further with each word.

Felicity’s tone shifted, the seriousness palpable. “Leave it to me. I’ll unmask this bastard,” she vowed, determination resonating in her voice.

Meanwhile, in a different part of town, Natalia was seething. She hurled her phone onto the sofa in frustration, the screen flashing with the missed calls from Dante—her twelfth attempt to reach him had gone unanswered.

Just as she was about to drown in her irritation, her phone rang unexpectedly, jolting her from her thoughts.

She snatched it up, only to grimace at the sight of Rowan’s name lighting up the screen.

“What do you mean someone saved her? Who was it?!” she demanded, her voice sharp and demanding as she pressed the phone to her ear.

As Rowan detailed the events of the evening, Natalia’s fingers curled into her palm, digging in hard enough to leave marks. Jealousy bubbled within her, a dark cloud overshadowing her thoughts.

Why does Evelyn always land on her feet? she wondered bitterly, her heart racing with envy.

On the other end of the line, Rowan sat in his car, his dark eyes glinting with malice as he absorbed the information.

“She’ll be on high alert now. Making another move won’t be easy,” he said, a sinister edge to his voice.
