Chapter 153
Elena couldn’t wait for seven o’clock to arrive. By 6:30, she was already fully prepared and pacing around her room, checking her reflection in the mirror for the hundredth time.
She had chosen one of the outfits she bought during her vacation – a marron dress that hugged her curves in all the right places.
The color made her skin glow and complemented her hair perfectly. She had spent extra time on her makeup, going for a natural but polished look that enhanced her features without being too heavy.
Her hair was styled in a sleek ponytail with two soft strands framing her face, making her look younger and somehow different. More confident. More like the old Elena, but with something new, a sense of peace she hadn’t had for a long time.
When she finally made her way downstairs, she found Mia and Stefan cuddled together on the main couch in the living room.
Sienna and James were on the opposite couch, with Sienna sitting comfortably on his lap while his head was buried against her neck. They looked completely absorbed in each other, whispering and laughing about something private.
Elena walked toward where everyone was sitting, checking her phone as she moved. Ethan had just texted that he was close by, apologizing for running a few minutes late. He had mentioned having something urgent to take care of at the office.
She didn’t blame him for the delay. She knew he was incredibly busy these days, especially since he was working for, under or is the heir of Meyer Industries. They are literally in direct competition with Stefan and Mia’s business, and the rivalry was intense.
One wouldn’t believe they were family, when it was time for business.
In just one year, Stefan and Mia had succeeded in taking over almost all of Jeremiah’s and Samuel’s former clients.
They had been strategic and smart about it, only leaving behind the clients they didn’t want to work with anyway. Unlike their competitors, Stefan and Mia’s company was selective. They had standards and choices about who they would do business with.
Elena settled onto an empty couch, and Mia immediately turned around when she noticed her, breaking into a huge smile.
“Wow, Elena!” Sienna exclaimed when she looked up and saw her too. “You look absolutely beautiful. Ethan is going to lose his tongue when he sees you.”
“He better,” Elena joked, flipping her hair playfully. “If he comes here and I don’t see his jaw hitting the floor, I’m not going anywhere with him.”
“Only a blind man wouldn’t be speechless looking at you,” Mia added, her eyes sparkling with excitement for her friend.

“Then I must be blind,” Stefan murmured under his breath, but both Mia and Elena heard him clearly.
Mia threw him a sharp look that could have cut glass, and Stefan immediately went quiet. He had learned not to test his pregnant wife’s patience, especially when she was in a good mood. The last thing he wanted was to end up sleeping in the guest room tonight.
“What I meant to say,” Stefan added quickly, “is that you really do look gorgeous, Elena. Ethan is definitely going to be speechless.”
Elena rolled her eyes but smiled. “Thank you.” It was obvious that Mia was controlling Stefan’s words somehow. Stefan would never voluntarily give such sweet compliments unless Mia was pulling his strings behind the scenes.
As Elena sat there, Mia couldn’t stop commenting on how beautiful she looked, going on and on about her dress, her hair, her makeup. Elena didn’t say anything because she knew she looked good. There was no point in false modesty.
But Mia was hyping her up more than usual. Was it because James was sitting right there? Elena hid her smile at the thought. Mia could be so protective and petty when she wanted to be.
Elena glanced over at James without making it obvious. He was holding Sienna with his right hand while his left hand rested on his lap. He sat quietly, almost like he wasn’t really present in the room.
It reminded her of how the old Mose used to behave – always observing, always listening, but rarely contributing to conversations unless directly asked.
Elena looked away and checked her phone again. Just as she did, the front door opened and Ethan stepped inside.
He looked incredible. He was wearing a black fitted shirt that showed off his broad shoulders and plain dark trousers that made his legs look even longer. His hair was styled perfectly, and he had that confident smile that always made Elena’s heart skip a beat. He must have showered at the office before leaving.
Her face lit up immediately when she saw him, and she could feel herself practically glowing with happiness.
Ethan walked straight to her without greeting anyone else first. When he reached her, he leaned down and kissed both of her cheeks softly, a gesture that felt both romantic and respectful.
“You look…” he started, then shook his head like he couldn’t find the right words. “Elena, I’m so grateful that I have the chance to love you and call you mine.”
