Later that night after everyone had gone to sleep, Alexander sat in the bar, downing some wine. But he wasn’t alone, Ethan was leaning against the wall, watching him with a frown.
"Are you planning on getting drunk? What’s wrong? Did anyone say something?" Ethan asked. Alexander could hear the slight concern in his tone and it irritated him further. He wasn’t a child, he didn’t need anyone’s concern.
He took the glass of wine to his lips and poured the liquid down his throat, then asked, "what makes you think someone said something?"
"What else would make you sit here, looking miserable as if your first love just broke your heart?"
Alexander scoffed at how ridiculous that sounded to his ears. "Never mind," he said, pouring himself more wine. "What about the necklace? Were you able to get it?"
Hearing that, Ethan approached him. He settled on the chair opposite him and dropped a jewelry box on the table. "Yes. Though it was a really tough auction... But seriously, boss, what has gotten into you lately? First, it was purchasing a whole complex of clothes, and now you spent two billion dollars on a god damn necklace? What the fuck? This doesn’t make sense at all."
"Yeah, it doesn’t make sense, just like how you think I owe you some explanation."
"This is different. As your assistant, I need to know how we got to this level. Two billion dollars is a freaking condo in South Caspress..."
"Talk about that one more time, and I swear, I will clock you," he warned.
Alexander’s blood was already on fire, and listening to Ethan’s lectures felt like adding gasoline to a burning inferno. If it were to be someone else, they would have had their face introduced to the floor before they could even finish the first sentence.
This wasn’t about how much money he spent, it was about getting the necklace. Now that he had it, he could move further to his next plan.
He reached for the elegant velvet jewelry box and took out the diamond necklace. Alexander was quite surprised by how valuable it looked. The pendant was an upside-down triangle, each diamond was finely cut and radiated from every angle. This was one of the best looking diamonds he had ever seen, and it made him wonder where Anna got it from.
"Did you do the research I told you to?" He asked.
"There wasn’t enough time, but I got some information. The necklace was carved specially by Mr. Reeves, France’s greatest jewelry dealer about seventy years ago. It was a present for the first heiress in the bloodline of The Steele. And for years, it had only been passed down to the generation of heiress," Ethan explained.
"Do you mean pass down to only heiresses?"
"Yes."
