Finch.
The name echoed in the silent hotel suite, a single word that connected everything. The corporate scandal. The "accidental" death of Alistair Finch. And now, the final, hidden location of Evelyn's cousin.
Kaelen's face was a mask of cold, dawning horror. "It can't be," he whispered. "Alistair had a daughter. Ariana. She would be about the right age."
The pieces of the puzzle slammed together with a brutal, sickening force. The anonymous video. The ghost in the machine who had sent it, whose skills were so advanced they had even impressed Evelyn.
It wasn't a stranger. It wasn't Claudia.
It was Ariana Finch. The true Aria Sutton. Alistair's daughter, raised in secret, using her own inherited genius to seek revenge on the family who had destroyed her father.
And she had used Evelyn as her weapon.
"She played us," Kaelen said, his voice a low, raw growl of disbelief. "All of us. She fed us the information about Claudia. She used you to destroy her own enemies, to take down the Syndicate from the inside."
In Evelyn's ear, the comms link she still had open to the Thorne command center crackled to life. It was her brother's voice, sharp with panic.
"Evelyn! We have a problem! The clinic's network is going crazy! There's some kind of… self-destruct sequence activating! It's wiping everything!"
At that exact moment, the lights in the archive vault flickered and died, plunging her into absolute darkness. A heavy, metallic clang echoed through the room as a solid steel blast door slammed down over the main entrance, sealing her inside.
A second later, a low, ominous hiss filled the air.
"They've shut down the ventilation system," Kaelen's voice said in her ear, his tone now ice-cold and deadly serious. "Evelyn, get out of there. Now."
