The Unwanted Wife and Her Secret Twins (Mia and Kyle) novel Chapter 208

Mia's POV

"Mia?" The voice was far away. Familiar but distorted.

I tried to respond, but my throat was sandpaper. Where was I? What happened?

"Mia, sweetie. Can you hear me?" Closer now. Mom's voice. But different. Strained.

Slowly, I forced my eyes open. The fluorescent lights above were too bright. I blinked rapidly, tears forming as my vision adjusted.

"Oh, thank God." That was Scarlett. "She's awake."

The room came into focus gradually. Hospital room. Machines everywhere. Tubes running from my arms. A catheter. The smell of antiseptic was overwhelming.

"What..." My voice came out as a rasp. "What happened?"

"Shhh." Mom's cool hand on my forehead. "Don't try to talk yet."

"Kyle," I managed to croak. "Where's Kyle?"

Mom and Scarlett exchanged a glance.

"Mia, honey, you need to stay calm," Mom said.

"My babies." Panic rose in my chest. "The twins. Where are they?"

"They're fine," Scarlett said quickly. "Both of them. Healthy and perfect."

"How long have I been..."

"Three days," Mom said softly. "You've been unconscious for three days."

Three days. I stared at the ceiling, trying to process this. "The surgery?"

"You had an emergency C-section. And then..." Mom's voice caught. "You hemorrhaged."

"How bad was it?" I asked.

Scarlett moved closer to the bed. Her eyes were red-rimmed, mascara smudged. Had she been crying? "Really bad, babe. You scared the hell out of us."

"We almost lost you," Mom added, her voice thick with emotion. "You needed twelve units of blood. They said it was touch and go for hours."

I looked between them, seeing the genuine fear in their faces. The shadows under their eyes. Mom's usually perfect hair was pulled back in a haphazard bun. Scarlett's clothes were wrinkled, like she'd slept in them.

"But I'm okay now?" I asked.

"You're okay now," Mom confirmed, squeezing my hand. "Weak, but recovering. The doctors say you'll make a full recovery."

"I want to see them," I said suddenly. "My babies. I want to see my sons."

Mom hesitated. "The doctor said we should wait until you're stronger."

"No." I tried to push myself up and winced at the pain. "Please. I need to see them."

Scarlett pressed the call button. "Let's ask the nurse. Maybe they can arrange something."

"Then where—"

"He was shot, remember?" Mom said gently. "He had major surgery too. He was in the ICU for days."

"Was?" I seized on the past tense.

Scarlett sat on the edge of my bed. "He's been moved. To a private recovery facility. A very good one."

I processed this information slowly. "So he's... recovering?"

"Yes," Mom confirmed. "He's going to be fine. Both of you are going to be fine."

"Then why isn't he here? Why didn't he come see me?"

"Mia," Scarlett began carefully, "Kyle asked to be transferred. No one know the reason."

What does that mean?

I let my head fall back on the pillow. This didn't make sense. Kyle did not want to see me and our boys?

"Can I talk to him?" I asked.

"I don't think so." Mom said.

Over the next few hours, more visitors arrived. Morton, Thomas, Jeo...But no Kyle.
