Chapter 268 Anyone who hung out with Taylor was never my friend.
**Mia’s POV**
I turned around slowly. The alcohol in my system wasn’t helping my mood.
Standing behind me was a woman about my age. She wore a shiny black dress.
I didn’t recognize her immediately. But something about her posture felt familiar.
Hands on hips. Chin tilted up in judgment.
“Sorry,” I said, keeping my voice level. “But who are you?”
Her face twisted with indignation. “You don’t know who I am?”
She spoke like she expected me to bow down. Like she was some kind of celebrity instead of just another entitled
woman.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. My patience was already gone after tonight’s drama.
“Should I?” I asked bluntly.
She looked genuinely shocked. Like the possibility that someone might not recognize her was impossible.
“I’m Ketty,” she announced. Like this should change everything.
The name clicked. Ketty Morrison.
Taylor’s faithful sidekick from high school. One of the girls who followed Taylor around like a puppy.
She used to laugh at Taylor’s cruel jokes. She participated in whatever social warfare Taylor decided to wage.
We’d all gone to the same high school. But that felt like a lifetime ago.
Anyone who hung out with Taylor was never my friend.
At least ten years had passed since I’d seen her face.
“Hi, Ketty,” I said flatly. I didn’t bother to fake enthusiasm.
I had zero interest in walking down memory lane. People who aligned themselves with Taylor had never been my friends.
“You’re such a cold, cruel person!” Ketty’s voice rose to a shrill pitch. “Taylor is your sister!”
The accusation made my headache worse. People on the street started staring at us.
“Ketty,” I said, keeping my voice calm. “If you want to show Taylor how much you care, you can apply for a prison visitation pass.”
The reminder hit Ketty like a physical blow. Her perfect face flushed red.
Her hands clenched into fists at her sides.

“How dare you!” she sputtered. “You’re the reason she’s in there!”
I almost laughed out loud. The audacity was absurd.
“Taylor destroyed her own life,” I replied. “I just stopped letting her destroy mine.”
Ketty’s eyes narrowed with malice. “You’d better watch yourself, Mia Williams.”
Her voice dropped to a threatening whisper. “You’d better not be caught bothering Kyle Branson anymore.”
She stepped closer. “He’s always loved Taylor, you know. He only married you because he felt sorry for you.”
I almost laugh out loud.
Ketty seemed stuck in the past. Operating with information from five years ago.
The soap opera between Kyle, Taylor, and me had moved on. Kyle was gone. Taylor was in prison.
“Ketty,” I said, pulling out my phone. “I think you’re confused about what year it is.”
“Don’t you dare dismiss me!” she shrieked. She stepped even closer.
“Taylor told me all about you! About how you trapped Kyle with those babies!”
Several people walking past stopped to stare. A couple of guys from the bar were enjoying the free entertainment.
I felt my temper starting to fray.
I took a step toward her. “If you ever refer to them that way again, we’re going to have a problem.”
Something in my tone made Ketty step backward. But she wasn’t done yet.
“Taylor’s getting out soon,” she said. Trying to regain her momentum.
“And when she does, she’s going to reclaim what’s rightfully hers.”
She smiled wickedly. “Kyle never stopped loving her. Everyone knows that.
I stared at her. Trying to process the delusion required to believe this.
་་
“Ketty,” I said finally. “Taylor isn’t getting out anytime soon. Whatever fantasy you’re living in, I’m not part of
it.”
My phone buzzed with an Uber notification. My ride was three minutes away.
“This conversation is over,” I said. I started walking toward the corner.
