The relief I felt when the door opened was unlike anything I’ve ever felt. Someone was here. They would an end to this. But that relief turned to horror when I saw who was standing by the door with her eyes wide and gleaming with tears.

“She’ll be here any moment.”

That was what this fucking woman meant. Why was my brain just catching that now?

“Bella…” I whispered as I looked at her, my heart breaking at the pain and helplessness in her eyes. I felt even more helpless than she was. I felt disgusted with myself, and for once in my life, I hated that I wasn’t human. If I were, this curse called rut wouldn’t be bearing down on my shoulders.

My calling her name was what made Medea finally notice Belladonna’s presence. Her head snapped back and her eyes became dark with hate as they landed on Belladonna.

“You.” Medea snarled.

That was when Belladonna snapped out of her shock. She looked at Medea, any sign of pain or helplessness gone, and was replaced by rage.

“Me?” she asked Medea, her voice almost unrecognizable. “Me, Medea?”

She stomped towards Medea, and before she could do anything, Belladonna dragged her by the hair and threw her on the floor.

Medea’s robe loosened and it opened. She wasn’t wearing anything inside.

“You fucking whore,” Belladonna spat as she grabbed Medea’s hair again, landing a sharp slap on her face that opened a wound on Medea’s cheek. “You’re disgusting.” Another slap. “Shameless.” Another. “A disgrace.”

Medea’s right cheek was a mess, the wound wide and blood dripping down.

“You think you’re going to take him away from him?” She held her hair even tighter, and Medea winced, thrashing against her.

“Let go,” Medea snarled, struggling to free herself, her right eye red and swollen.

“You think I’ll just sit down and watch you take this good thing away from my life again?” Belladonna continued, a wild look in her eyes as she dug her finger into the wound on Medea’s cheek.

Medea’s eyes widened in pain, and she fought harder to free herself but Belladonna’s hold on her was strong.

“You thought wrong, Medea. I wanted to do everything legally and watch you lose everything, but maybe I’ll just kill you right here and now.”

Fear grew in Medea’s eyes, and I smelled it as well.

Her face immediately softened and the hardness in her eyes broke apart. She turned to Medea who had gone still and was just glaring at her.

“You shouldn’t escape through death so easily,” Belladonna spat. “That’ll be too merciful. You should suffer.”

Medea just looked cocky. “And you think you can make me suffer? Your best shot will be to kill me. You won’t get an-”

Her voice broke into a scream when Belladonna stepped on her ankle with great force, breaking it.

“You-” Medea stammered, her body shaking, her eyes wide.

“Since you’re so shameless,” Belladonna said as she leaned down, ripping Medea’s robe and dragging it away from her, exposing her naked body, “you shouldn’t have a problem going out there naked.”

“Open this door!” Medea screamed as she banged on the door. “Open it!”

Belladonna just leaned on the door, looking at me, biting her lips and her eyes watering.

“Hey,” I said softly. “Let me explain.”
