“Can’t I just touch up my makeup?” Ivy shot back, her tone unapologetic. She turned to the waiter and asked where the restroom was, then headed off without another
word.
Suddenly, Katrina understood.
Ivy was giving her a taste of her own medicine–ditching her, just as Katrina had done months ago. Who’d have thought karma would swing back around like this?
Katrina settled into her seat, suddenly feeling self–conscious as she glanced across the table. “Um… Mr. Wilson, why don’t you take a look at the menu? I’m not sure what you like, so I’ll let you order.”
“Sure.” Naylor took the menu, but when it came time to order, he still made sure to pick dishes he thought Katrina would enjoy, and he was discreetly mindful of her budget, too.
Katrina didn’t say anything, but as she listened to him order, she understood what he was doing.
After two years of blind dates and countless meals with different men, this was the first time she’d felt truly at ease–no discomfort, no gut–level rejection, just a quiet sense that she could actually relax.
When Ivy finished in the restroom, she peeked around the corner to check on her friend. Spotting Katrina and Naylor in quiet conversation, she grinned, whipped out her phone, and snapped a quick candid photo to send to Jamison.
Waiting in the car outside, Dr. Ludwig responded immediately with a voice. message. “You really want those two to end up together?”
Ivy pressed the record button, giggling under her breath. “You never know unless you try! Worst case, if it doesn’t work out, at least they’ll both make a new friend.”
With that, she quietly left the restaurant.
Once she was back in the car, Ivy sent Katrina a voice message. “Katrina, I have something to take care of, so I’m heading out. Enjoy your dinner with!
Wilson!”
When Katrina saw the message, she bit her lip and shot back a “we’re done” meme Ivy laughed out loud, then told the driver, “Let’s go–I want to do some shopping.” The two of them drove to the International Trade Center, where they picked a chie

restaurant for a romantic dinner before hitting the stores.
As they stepped out of the restaurant, Jamison’s phone rang.
It was Boyd.
“Uncle, are you and Ivy shopping at the Trade Center?”
Jamison sounded mildly surprised. “How do you know?”
“The bodyguard I had tailing Emma just called me. He said he saw a man and a woman who looked a lot like you two.”
Jamison’s brow furrowed. “So Emma’s here, too?”
“Yeah. Supposedly, she’s with some old guy–old enough to be her father.”
“A new sugar daddy?”
“Looks like it. Mr. Shepherd dragged Mr. Shepherd home and probably isn’t letting him out anymore, so Emma needs someone to rely on. But her reputation’s shot–no one in our circle wants her now. She’s got to lower her standards.”
Lowering her standards pretty much meant being a trophy for an old man.
After the call ended, Ivy looked at her husband in disbelief. “Emma’s here too? And she’s already found a new sugar daddy?”
Jamison nodded and repeated everything Boyd had told him.
Ivy was so stunned, she couldn’t even find the words.
It took her a moment to process it all. “The Windsor family raised us the same way. Sure, she’s not as sharp as I am, but she’s still learned so much–how did it come to this, that she can’t survive without a man?”
Couldn’t find a suitable match, so she went looking for an old man?
She’s young, beautiful–how can she stomach being with someone like that?
And she’s pregnant, too. The first three months are supposed to be the most unstable. How can she risk messing around with men right now?
