Ivy let out a wry chuckle. “Seems like you have a pretty good impression of him.
“It’s mostly because I’ve met so many weirdos on blind dates. Compared to them, Mr. Wilson is practically perfect.”
Perfect? Ivy hadn’t expected her best friend to rate Naylor so highly.
She jumped in to persuade her. “If that’s how you feel, why not make the first move? You’re both single, after all.”
Jamison was driving. When he heard this, he glanced back at his wife, one eyebrow raised.
Was Ivy really getting serious about this?
Katrina hesitated for a moment, then smiled faintly. “No, thanks. You have to know your limits.”
Ivy could hear it–her friend was interested in Naylor, but her current situation made her feel insecure, as if she wasn’t good enough for him.
Ivy understood that feeling all too well.
When Jamison first confessed his feelings for her, she’d had the same worries.
She knew she was accomplished, and she wasn’t prone to self–doubt. But when someone’s “resume” was just that impressive, it was hard not to feel a twinge of uncertainty.
Ivy spent ages trying to convince her, but Katrina only grew more determined to back out.
When the call finally ended, Ivy turned to her husband and blurted out, “Tell Mr. Wilson not to date anyone for a while–no, for the rest of the year! Give Katrina a chance.”
Jamison couldn’t help but laugh. “Whether he dates or not is up to him. Even his parents can’t control that who am I supposed to be?”
“Oh, come on, just say something!”
Jamison was curious. “Does Katrina really like him? After just one dinner? Isn’t that a bit hasty?”
“There’s such a thing as love at first sight, you know. This is nothing.”

Jamison considered this, then said seriously, “Naylor’s a bit of a flirt. Hes told me straight up he’s not looking to settle down anytime soon. Katrina, on the other hand, is clearly hoping to find someone to marry. They’re not a good match.
Ivy pressed her lips together, hesitating.
“I could introduce her to some other great guys. There are three or four single
doctors in my department–about her age.”
“Okay…”
“Oh, and another thing,” Jamison added, as something occurred to him. “Remember Dale Sullivan? From the WhatsApp group? He’s single, works at a big tech firm, makes good money.”
Of course Ivy remembered. She looked at Jamison and asked, “Didn’t you say we should all meet up sometime?”
“Yeah, when you’re back next week, we can set something up.”
But Ivy hesitated again. “Let’s wait and see. I’m not really used to meeting people
from online…”
They got home, and Jamison’s phone buzzed–a text from Naylor, sharing the location of a restaurant.
It reminded him: lunch with his mentor’s family was tomorrow.
“Ivy, I’ve got to go to the hospital early tomorrow, but I’ll swing by before noon to pick you up. We’ll have lunch with my mentor’s family.”
“Okay, got it.”
