The Wife He Tried To Erase (by Gavin) novel Chapter 7

After that night, I braced myself for Tristan to show up at my shop every day, ready for a long standoff.

But to my surprise, for the next few days, he didn’t show up at all.

Lona lounged in my store, grumbling as she scrolled through her phone.

Trist’s been a total phantom lately. No clue what’s got him so tied

  1. up.

Maybe he’s fallen hard and is glued to his new girlfriend’s side. Bet they’re all loveydovey right

now.

She kept swiping, then gasped, shoving her phone under my nose.

Aha! Knew it! Look, it’s Trist!

The screen showed a selfie of a radiant woman with sunkissed skin, her smile bright enough to light up a room.

Tucked in the corner, almost out of sight, was a familiar shadowa tall, strong figure in black.

Even without a clear view of his face, I’d know it was Tristan.

He must’ve been caught in the shot by accident.

I knew snooping on Kate’s Instagram posts would pay off,Lona said with a smug grin. They’ve been hanging out a ton lately. I’m basically a detective!

Eleanore, they’re both such formidable people. If they ever have a massive fight, do you think I’d get caught in the crossfire? It’s kind of terrifying, she mused.

With a quick swipe, she liked the post.

Something in my chest tightened.

Katrina really was beautifulthe kind of beauty that radiated confidence and sunshine.

Just imagining her standing next to Tristan made me uncomfortable. They looked like a perfect match. The thought left a bitter taste in my mouth.

That evening, Lona dragged me out for drinks.

My mood was sour, and I needed an outlet, so I didn’t say no.

Lona, ever the social butterfly, had rounded up a few new friendsmostly guys she’d met recently.

The bar was buzzing, and after a couple of drinks, the group’s laughter and chatter melted my defenses. I started to relax, the alcohol loosening the knot in my chest.

One of the guys, a younger one with a diamond stud glinting in his right car, slid into the seat

next to me.

His skin was smooth, his features sharp and boyishly handsome.

Leaning in close, he murmured, Ellie, what else can I get you? My treat.

His proximity made me uneasy, and I shifted away. I’m good, thanks.

He grinned, undeterred, and reached out to poke my cheek playfully.

What’s this? You allergic to alcohol or something? Your face is all red.

His casual touch caught me off guard, and before I could respond, Lona’s camera flashed in our direction.

She gasped, No way, she’s here?

Her fingers flew across her phone, typing furiously.

Trist, emergency! Your future wife’s running off with another guy!

Tristan’s reply came almost instantly: You took her to a bar?

Lona scoffed, typing back. What do you mean, I took her? I don’t even know her! I’m just giving you the headsup, so don’t blame the messenger!

Tristan: Send me the address.

Lona fired off the location with a gleeful cackle, then leaned toward me, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

Ellie, you won’t believe this, but Katrina’s right behind you.

I snapped a pic and sent it to Trist. He’s on his way. This is gonna be good!

The alcohol dulled my senses, and her words barely registered.
