The man sized Penelope up again, his interest growing even stronger.
“Don’t I look familiar to you?”
She had thought he looked familiar from the first moment she saw him, but she couldn't place him.
“I’m told I look quite a bit like someone.”
Someone? Who?
Penelope stared at the man, trying hard to remember, wracking her brain until a face suddenly came to mind.
“You’re Theodore’s…”
The man’s smile deepened. “I’m his cousin. Maybe he’s mentioned me to you.”
Penelope immediately tensed up. He was Marico Stapleton!
The notorious troublemaker who was a constant headache for the Stapleton family!
“You know, I do have some principles. I usually don't mess around close to home, but in your case…”
Penelope narrowed her eyes. “I’m not your territory to mess with, but I do know how to fight. Care for a match?”
“Ha, just like Theodore’s woman. Fiery, as expected.”
“Your mouth is as foul as your pickup lines.”
“You should call me ‘brother.’”
“As if you’re worthy?”
“God, you’re just my type.”
Penelope glared at the grinning Marico, biting her lip in frustration. It was the first time in her life she’d lost a battle of words. It wasn’t that she lacked a sharp wit, but she couldn't match his shamelessness.
She didn’t want to deal with Marico anymore, so she turned to Yvonne.
“You certainly have a type. But please, keep him on a leash so he doesn’t go around causing trouble for everyone else!”
With that, Penelope turned and walked away.
