Chapter 196
“Jessi, come on,” Simon said helplessly.
“What joke?”
At that moment, Gabriela’s voice suddenly cut in from the doorway.

“You’re here too?” Jessica looked up at Gabriela, who stood there with a fruit basket in one hand and flowers in the other, her face full of resignation.
“You got hospitalized from anger–how could I not come to have your back?” Gabriela rolled her eyes at her as she spoke, about to set down her gifts.
But when she glanced over, she saw the nightstand closest to Jessica was already overflowing with snacks and drinks.

“Wow, you’ve got enough here to stock a convenience store! I’m not the last one to show up, am I? Sorry, my phone was off last night. I only found out you were in the hospital this morning.”
With that, Gabriela casually tossed her gifts onto a small table nearby.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s nothing serious; you really didn’t have to come,” Jessica said, shaking her head.
“That’s not the point. At least I’m here to vent for you, so you don’t have to argue with people while you’re pregnant,” Gabriela said.
As she spoke, Gabriela rolled her eyes toward the door.
Jessica asked, “Did you run into Brian?”
Gabriela nodded in confirmation.
Her heart was in turmoil. She really didn’t know how to feel about this.
Jessica hadn’t expected Brian to actually keep his promise and keep vigil outside her hospital room the whole time.
Gabriela didn’t hold back with her sarcasm. “Definitely! He was standing there like a damn guardian statue. Impossible to miss, even if I tried.”
She then asked in surprise, “Hey, what’s that you’ve got there?
“Wait, is that a divorce decree?!”
After dissing Brian, Gabriela was about to check Jessica’s forehead when her eyes suddenly caught sight of the document in Jessi’s arms. She froze, then blurted out in shock.
“Jessi, you finally got divorced?!” Gabriela practically squealed, her voice brimming with joy as she emphasized the word “divorced.”
“Yeah, just got it today. Congrats to me!” Jessica said cheerfully, waving her freshly issued divorce decree.
“Congrats, congrats! If you weren’t stuck in the hospital right now, I’d drag you out this instant to throw a party and celebrate you finally getting rid of that ungrateful father and son duo and regaining your freedom!” Gabriela exclaimed.
As she spoke, she pulled Jessica into a tight hug.
“Bestie, you’re finally free!”
Jessica returned the embrace just as tightly, her heart swelling with relief.
“Yeah,” she said softly, “I’m free now.”
Simon quietly stood up and stepped aside, giving the two women some space.

Gabriela finally released Jessica after a long, reluctant hug and glanced around.

“Hey, where’s Simon? He was just here; how did he vanish so fast? I really wanted to thank him properly. Honestly, I never expected him to come through like this!”
“He’s stepped out. Want me to call him back?”
Jessica had noticed Simon leaving, but the atmosphere at that moment didn’t seem right for stopping him–or necessary, for that matter.
“No need for that. I’ll just text him to say thanks when I leave.”
Gabriela shook her head.
Jessica nodded, hesitated for a moment, then decided to tell Gabriela about Brian’s role in the matter.
Gabriela’s jaw dropped in astonishment.
“You’re telling me Brian was taking care of you in the hospital while also arranging the divorce? What the hell is he playing at?”
Gabriela frowned. “Is he trying that soft approach to win you back? First acting all thoughtful and caring to sway you, then suggesting you get back together?”
“Now that we’re divorced, there’s no way in hell I’d ever get back with him,” Jessica said without hesitation.
She thought to herself, ‘After everything I went through just to finally end things with Brian, there’s absolutely no way I’d ever agree to remarry him.”
“But he might not see it that way,” Gabriela pointed out sharply, hitting the nail on the head.
