Compassionate and just, Wesley would help anyone who asked, even total strangers. Sana thought, her chest tightening, “He’s such a good man. How could I possibly drag him down?‘
With that, she lifted her chin and said coldly, “Fine. Even if you’re right, it’s nothing serious. Running into that creep today was just bad luck I’ll find someone better eventually, and when I do, I hope you’ll stay out of it.”
Wesley felt a sharp pang in his chest, but he had no grounds to object. In the end, he exhaled and said, “I can agree, but only if you let me vet every single one of them first.”
“What did you just say?” Sana stared at him, convinced she must have misheard. Bewildered, she thought, ‘What kind of ridiculous request is that?
“You’re neither my brother nor my dad. What right do you have to vet my dates? What would people think of me if they found out?” she snapped.
She thought, ‘Wouldn’t I become the ultimate dating joke? Showing up to blind dates with a self–proclaimed ‘guardian‘ tagging along?”
‘Wait, guardian? More like a suitor. Ugh, How did I allow myself to get brainwashed by him? At most, he’s just my former crush, or someone I had one- night stand he had. Either way, the whole thing is absurd.!‘
“No. And don’t ever bother me again!” Sana snapped, grabbing her bag and shooting to her feet, thinking, ‘Wesley is absolutely impossible right now!
“Sana,” Wesley called out. He instinctively wanted to chase her, but she was already darting away in her heels like she had wings.
Afraid that chasing too closely might make her stumble, he stopped in his tracks, watching her swiftly disappearing figure.
In that moment, he vowed silently, “From now on, I’ll keep an even closer eye on her and vet anyone who tries to get close, so no one can ever deceive her again.”
Meanwhile, Jessica had no choice but to finish dinner with Brian. Then, she was practically dragged along as he shopped, picking out new art supplies and toys for Jake, before they finally headed to the parking lot.
Just as they were nearing the parking lot, Brian spotted a bustling/milkshake shop and insisted on buying one for Jessica.
“Jessi, wait here for me for a bit. I’ll go stand in line,” Brian said. He gently guided Jessica to the nearest bench and thoughtfully took off his jacket, draping it over her shoulders.
As Jessica lifted her hand to refuse, a sudden glint caught her eye. It was the unmistakable flash of a camera.
Suddenly, she looked up to see a group of young girls excitedly snapping photos of her and Brian with their phones. When they caught her gaze, they squealed and dramatically clasped their hands over their mouths, their faces glowing with fangirl excitement.
At this moment, they were thinking, ‘Oh goodness me. Mrs. Atkinson looked at me!‘
Without a word, she shot to her feet, grabbed Brian’s arm, and dragged him away.
Brian was just about to join the queue when Jessica suddenly tugged on his arm. Worried she might stumble, he quickly fell into step with her. “What’s wrong, Jessi?”
Jessica snapped, “Shut up! It’s all your fault.
‘Those girls must be our shippers,’ she thought, exasperated.
