The Wife They Tried to Replace Is Now Untouchable novel Chapter 90

Chapter 90

Brian leaned in, his chiseled features fooling Jessica’s view and delivering a powerful visual punch.

Jessica’s eyes darted away. She fought to steady her racing heart, turning her head just enough in break eye contact

His voice dropped to a low, velvety purr. “Besides lasagne, anything else you’re craving?” A faint smille hugged at the corners of his mouth it’d been ages since Jessica last asked him for anything.

Her face still pale, Jessica stared at the wall and shook her head.

“Okay. I’ll be back soon.” Noticing her obvious cold shoulder, Brian hesitated. Then he said dotingly and reached out to ruffle her hair gently

Jessica didn’t flinch or respond. When Brian stood up, his tall frame cast a shadow over her. He could practically feel the wall she’d put up between them, the way she stiffened at his touch.

Confusion nagged at him, but Janice’s words about pregnancy mood swings popped into his head. With a quiet sigh, he let it go

The door clicked shut behind him. Jessica stared at the closed door for a long moment, lost in thought.

The wait water had helped settle her stomach, so she refilled her cup. As she looked around, memories of their past there came flooding back unbidden.

Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, she got up and went to the bedroom.

When Brian returned with the lasagne, his stomach dropped at the empty living room. But then he noticed the closed bedroom door.

“Jessi?” He knocked softly. Silence.

Trying the handle, he found it locked from the inside. ‘Figures, he thought.

Brian sighed inwardly and knocked harder. “Jessi, I got the lasagne. You should eat something before sleeping”

Silence. He waited for a beat, then tried again. “You just threw up. Your stomach’s empty–you’ll feel uncomfortable if you don’t eat.”

At Grant Manor, Stella poked her head into Dereck’s study and said, “Jessi texted she’s staying out tonight. Toll us not to hold dinner.” She hesitated. “Honestly, Brian seems okay. And Jacob’s a well–mannered kid. You think she’s with Brian?”

She’d tried hinting around, asking if Brian was cheating. But Jessica just said their relationship was broken.

“Let the kids sort their own mess out,” he said, stepping back to eye his work. “If Jessi wants a divorce, fine. The kid can take the Grant name. It’s just as good as Atkinson.”

The day Jessica stepped into the company, the laid down the law. One calculated move was all it took to get the board members falling in line. Since then, she’s steered every single group project to success without a single hitch.
