Chapter 104
In a high–end mall in Jelasburg, Emily chose a pink suit and went to the fitting room. Sophia carried her bag and sat on a sofa in the rest area. Lucas followed and joined her.
Lucas gave Sophia a hard stare. “So, where did you disappear last night? Spill it, and I’ll let you have anything you fancy
from here.”
Sophia shot him a sarcastic look. “Seriously? You think I’d settle for your hand–me–downs?”
She’d been married to him for three years, and except for formal events, when the Westwood family made sure she had a gown so she wouldn’t embarrass them, Sophia always paid for her own clothes.
Lucas never cared how Sophia dressed. After all, he hardly ever appeared in the same place as her. To him, what she wore didn’t matter. Buying her clothes was never on his mind.
Lucas’s anger erupted. “Sophia, don’t make me regret cutting you any slack.”
Sophia’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Lucas, if you’re looking for trouble, I can guarantee you won’t be able to finish this shopping trip.”
Lucas, remembering that Sophia could get physical at the drop of a hat, ground his teeth in annoyance. “You think I’d ever be scared of you?”
Sophia grabbed her paper cup, coffee swirling inside, and just chucked it straight at Lucas’s face.
The coffee dripped down his chiseled jaw and stuck all over his forehead and cheeks, making him look absolutely ridiculous.
Lucas’s eyes narrowed in fury. “You-”
Sophia tossed the cup into the trash, grabbed a tissue and wiped her hands. “Annoying.” She’d been way too soft with him, and now he actually believed he could humiliate her however he liked.
Emily emerged from the fitting room and, seeing Lucas’s face dripping wet and covered in tea leaves, hurried over with some tissues to help him clean up.
“Sophia, how could you be so rude? Making such a scene for Lucas in front of everyone. Don’t you think that’s going too far?” Emily said, exasperated.
Sophia gave a cold little laugh. “Weren’t you two the ones begging me to come along? If you think I’m too much, just keep your distance.”
“So that’s what you’re playing at, huh?” Lucas’s veins stood out on his forehead, furious. “You’re just pushing my buttons, so I’ll quit watching your every move, and then you can sneak off with your side guy.”
Sophia couldn’t even be bothered to dignify that with an answer. She just flashed him a mocking grin. “Wow, congrats.
Lucas yelled after her, “Sophia, where are you going? Stop right there.”
Sophia didn’t even look back. She stormed out, and in her fury, accidentally collided with someone. Stunned, she stumbled back, but a large hand reached out and caught her by the waist.
She looked up, startled. “Mr. Sterling, what are you doing here?”
Harley popped his head around and explained quietly, “This mall belongs to the Sterling Group. Mr. Sterling’s just here to check up on things.”
Sophia’s eyes widened in surprise. “What?”
‘This luxury mall featured the world’s top brands, with daily revenues in the millions. If it belonged to Richard, how wealthy must he be?‘ she wondered.
Richard caught her and helped her steady herself. When he looked down, he saw her eyes rimmed red. She looked just like a little bunny that had just been bullied.
Richard asked softly, “Hey, what’s wrong?”
Sophia shook her head. “It’s nothing. Go on with what you’re doing. I’ll get going now.”
