Lucas rubbed his temples, trying to ease the pounding headache. “The bodyguard I sent to protect Sophia got falsely accused and hauled off by the cops.
“They wanted me to come in and help with the investigation.”
“Are you out of your mind?” Billy slammed his fist on the table, voice quivering with anger. “Every competitor is itching for Yadel Group to fall flat, and you just handed them fresh ammo yourself.”
Lucas pressed his lips into a tight line. “Dad, they were stuck at the station. I couldn’t just sit back and do nothing.”
“So what did you actually solve?” Billy was nearly shouting. “Now you’re trending online for getting mobbed by reporters outside the station. How are you going to clean up this PR disaster?”
“I’ll have the PR team get that trending topic taken down,” Lucas said.
Billy’s forehead veins bulged. “You think scrubbing the trending topic doesn’t cost money? And what’s with these domestic violence rumors?”
The fact that Lucas had broken three of Sophia’s ribs had been kept under wraps from Billy, who was completely in the dark.
So when the news broke, Billy was totally blindsided.
Lucas clenched his phone and ducked into a secluded corner, speaking in a low, urgent voice. “That wasn’t domestic violence. I was just trying to protect myself, and that’s all.”
“Protect yourself? You broke three of her ribs,” Billy exploded, his disbelief turning to outrage. “Lucas, when did you become a jerk who goes around beating up women?”
‘No wonder Sophia won’t come back to work at Yadel Group,‘ Billy fumed inwardly. ‘She must be absolutely shattered by this heartless bastard.‘
Lucas wanted to argue, but the memory of himself losing it that night, just seeing red and flying off the handle, was still burned into his mind.
He said with a bitter edge, “She started it, Dad. Seriously, you weren’t there. She’d totally snapped, swinging at anyone in sight. If I hadn’t stepped in and tried to stop her, God knows what she might’ve done.”
Billy felt like the son on the phone was a total stranger. He didn’t want to waste breath arguing any longer.
Billy dialed back his tone and said, “I’ve already called ahead to the station–head out the back door and get home, ASAP.
“The moment you walk in, record a video with Sophia, looking like a picture–perfect couple.”
Lucas felt a surge of frustration and shot back, “I don’t even know her whereabouts; how am I supposed to shoot a video with
her?
“You’ve got some nerve,” Billy snapped. “I’ll get your grandma to call her. She’s the only one Sophia listens to.”
With that, Billy hung up.
Not long after, a junior cop showed up to lead Lucas out through the back door.
As Lucas settled into the car, he pulled out his phone. Sure enough, hashtags like [Lucas Abuse Scandal] were already

The two bodyguards shot each other a nervous glance.
“Mr. Westwood, Mrs. Westwood went into the factory area and hasn’t left. She’s probably still inside,” one of them replied.
Lucas kicked the seat in front of him, his voice laced with fury. “Take me to Annabelle’s place.”
At Annabelle’s condo, just as she was busy bragging to Sophia over the phone about how they totally owned the night, the doorbell suddenly rang.
Annabelle glanced at the trending feed. Those hashtags were blowing up, practically setting social media on fire, and she could barely hide her giddy satisfaction.
“Sophie, with all the Westwood family cash, that trending topic should’ve been wiped ages ago,” Annabelle said, sounding pretty satisfied.
Sophia didn’t even blink. “Success always makes you a target. Yadel Group’s been the top dog in the industry for years. Of course, there’s a line of people out there just waiting for a chance to knock them down.
“Now that Westwood handed them a scandal on a silver platter, you really think those wolves scenting blood are going to let it go?”
Honestly, it was like the Westwood family still thought they were popular, and everyone else just had to bow down to them.
