Three Years Wasted I Married Mr. Right novel Chapter 69

Chapter 69

Lucas watched as Sophia leaped forward. He tried to grab her, but she slipped right through his grasp, fingers closing on nothing but air.

Sophia darted through the crack in the door, only to hit the ground hard.

Lucas stopped short, staring at Sophia sprawled on the floor, unmoving. A cold smirk curled at his lips.

“You really think you can get away from me, Sophia? Keep dreaming!” he sneered.

Seeing Sophia unconscious, Lucas wasn’t in a hurry anymore. He strolled out the gate as if he had all the time in the world.

Sophia had already passed out. Lucas stood over her, only then spotting a shocking patch of red blooming across the back of her nightgown. He was surprised.

He remembered he hadn’t gone that far. He just wanted to teach her a lesson and remind her not to mess with him. Hurting her like this was never part of the plan.

He said, “You used to be so obedient. Your whole world revolved around me. Why did you have to change?”

He thought, ‘How did things between us end up like this? It’s all Sophia’s fault. If only she were still the way she used to be, I would’ve never had the heart to hurt her.

‘But after this, she’d learn her lesson. She’d drop that rebellious streak and turn back into the sweet, compliant wife I used to know.‘

With a sigh, Lucas crouched down, reaching for her, but before his hands could even get close, someone swooped in and swept her away.

He looked up, stunned, and glared at the newcomer. “Who the hell-”

But as soon as his eyes met those icy, predatory eyes, the rest of his words caught in his throat.

The man standing before Lucas wore a pitch–black suit, cradling the unconscious Sophia in his arms, steady and sure.

His face, half hidden in the amber haze of the setting sun, seemed gilded with a golden glow. He stood there, his gaze razor- sharp, radiating a fierce, bone–chilling presence that made people instinctively shrink back.

Lucas didn’t know this guy, but one look told him the man was either extremely wealthy or had top–tier status–not someone he could afford to provoke.

But his wife was still in that man’s arms. If he backed down now, he’d lose all his pride.

Richard thought, ‘Sophia really has a bad taste. How did she wind up marrying such an obvious womanizer? But…

Richard’s stare sharpened, murderous intent flickering in his gaze. He thought, ‘Being a playboy is one thing, but abusing his wife? Scum like him shouldn’t even be allowed to breathe!”

“Paul!” Richard called out.

He shot a look at his chief bodyguard. No words were needed. Paul understood instantly.

“Mr. Sterling, please take Ms. Evans to the car. Leave everything else to me,” Paul said.

Without hesitation, Richard turned away, carrying Sophia in his arms as he strode off.

Lucas lunged forward to stop him, but one of the bodyguards grabbed his arm, twisting it behind his back with a swift, brutal motion. Lucas’s face contorted in pain.

He opened his mouth to curse, but Paul was quicker. He shoved a wad of cloth into Lucas’s mouth and then kicked him hard, sending him crashing to his knees.
