Sophia clenched her fists against her chest, keeping him at a distance. She gave him a mocking smile, her gaze like a sharp blade aimed straight at him.
Lucas felt a sinking sadness. He tried to see any sign that Sophia still cared for him, but all he saw was her disgust.
Panicked, he grabbed her face and kissed her without thinking.
Sophia froze for a moment, then quickly reacted, slapping Lucas across the face to stop him.
Lucas covered his face in disbelief, looking at her with a wounded expression. “Why won’t you let me kiss you? Didn’t you always love it before?”
Sophia’s palms tingled as she slowly clenched her fists. “It’s over, Lucas. I don’t love you anymore.”
She thought bitterly, ‘You caused my miscarriage and broke three of my ribs. How could I possibly still love you?‘
Lucas clenched his teeth. “It’s not over. Sophia, you promised you’d never love anyone but me. You can’t do this to me.”
Sophia felt sick recalling the sweet words she once said to him. Bitterly, she said, “You cheated first. Why can’t I do the same to you?”
Lucas said, “You’re still jealous of Emily, aren’t you? I swear there’s nothing between her and me. You’re my one and only wife.”
Sophia’s heart was filled with mixed emotions. “Lucas, it’s too late. None of this matters anymore.”
She knew he didn’t love her as he claimed. He simply hated losing control over her. Yet she was no longer willing to endure it. She had made up her mind–she wanted a divorce.
Lucas instinctively pushed her away. “Are you out of your mind, Sophia? You’re feeling too good about yourself. I never loved you. I just enjoyed having you around.”
Sophia held his gaze, unflinching, and let out a faint laugh. “Then you better never fall for me, or else—”
She thought, ‘Otherwise, I’ll make you understand what it feels like to love someone who can never love you back.
She strode away, and Lucas didn’t follow this time.
He stood there, watching her leave, both angry and unwilling to accept it. He raised his hand and called over a bodyguard. “Follow her. Tell me who she meets.”
“Got it. The bodyguard drove off.
Lucas stood in the yard for a while, staring at Cherry Grove intently. Seeing the withered cherry blossoms and ripening fruit, he felt himself gradually settling down.
He didn’t love Sophia; his heart belonged to Emily. The reason he reacted so strongly was that Sophia had suddenly gotten out of his grip.
If she were still all about him like she used to be, he wouldn’t feel so uneasy and possessive.
Sophia got herself a new phone. No sooner had she inserted the SIM than a call came through. Seeing the name on the screen, she relaxed a bit. “Annabelle, how’s it going?”

Annabelle laughed softly. “All done, but Uncle Richard looks a little upset.”
Sophia could hardly imagine what an unhappy Richard would look like because he always wore a stern expression, even when nothing was amiss.
“I caused him trouble and left without a word. He’s definitely mad at me.” Sophia said with a wry smile.
Annabelle replied, “He won’t be.”
“I’m joking. Where are you now? I haven’t had dinner yet. Do you want to join me?” Sophia said.
He thought, ‘Damn it, if Sophia had cheated, I would make her pay!
Sophia had just ordered when Annabelle arrived. Before they could speak, Sophia’s phone rang. She glanced at the screen, switched it to silent, and placed it face down on the table.
Annabelle raised an eyebrow. “Is that Lucas?”
“I don’t want to talk about him,” Sophia said, pushing her plate forward and ignoring the topic.
Annabelle looked at her, saying, “Sophie, the Westwood family didn’t give you a hard time, did they?”
Sophia shook her head. “Mr. Westwood was there.”

Billy was the head of the Westwood family. He rarely involved himself in family affairs, so Sophia didn’t understand why he was speaking up for her this time.
The biggest problem now was his opposition to her divorce from Lucas, which was giving her a headache.
After hearing everything Sophia had gone through at the Westwood residence, Annabelle said thoughtfully, “Do you think he’s stopping the divorce because he thinks you’re a better match for Lucas? After all, Emily has caused so much trouble recently.”
Sophia paused, then gave a bitter smile. “Well, I never thought I would need Emily being foolish to show how good I am.”
For three years, she had given so much to the Westwood family and Yadel Group, yet they never cared. Now she was utterly disappointed, and they still wouldn’t let her go.
Annabelle looked at her with concern. “What’s your plan?”
“I’ll develop the formula for skin regeneration before Yadel Group does; and trade it for my freedom,” said Sophia.
