Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 140

In the past, the Jensen family had always managed to reap benefits from the Ford family, thanks to the connection between their daughter Noelle and Landon.

As long as they didn’t push things too far, it wasn’t exactly a secret that the Jensens had used the Ford Group’s name more than once to secure some perks for themselves.

Even when Landon noticed, he’d always turned a blind eye.

But today, they’d miscalculated. In targeting Zinnia, they’d finally provoked Landon’s wrath.

He wasn’t even willing to show Noelle the slightest bit of consideration anymore.

Juniper, unlike her daughter Rosalie, wasn’t foolish. She immediately softened her stance, trying to placate him.

“But you know Xander is our son. After what happened to him, of course we had to figure out what went wrong, didn’t we? Noelle just got too anxious and made a mistake, that’s all.” Juniper’s smile was ingratiating, her tone full of forced warmth.

She clearly hoped a few conciliatory words would be enough to sweep her daughter’s online smear campaign against Zinnia and her parents under the rug.

But it was obvious Landon wasn’t in a forgiving mood tonight. For once, he seemed determined to count every slight.

“From the way Rosalie was acting,” Landon said coldly, his eyes narrowing, “if I hadn’t come in when I did, she would have slapped my wife across the face.”

A dangerous energy emanated from him, sharp and oppressive.

Rosalie’s face drained of color. Landon’s gaze made her instinctively take two steps back.

“Landon, you—you’ve misunderstood, I just—I was only—” Rosalie stammered, unable to come up with a single excuse. Her expression grew more rigid by the second.

Even though he was seated and they were upright, the power dynamic was clear as day.

“So, now that you’ve had a chance to calm down, have you?” he asked, his voice calm but steely.

“Yes, yes, we’ve calmed down,” Rosalie replied, hastily wiping sweat from her brow. Though it was the dead of winter, she couldn’t stop sweating.

“The consent for Xander’s surgery was signed by me,” Landon continued. “I watched the entire procedure as my wife operated. If you have any concerns about what happened that night, you can bring them to me.”

Juniper and Rosalie could only force awkward smiles. Once upon a time, they might have used Zinnia’s lack of seniority in the field as leverage to squeeze some benefit from Landon. But after the medical review board—made up of top specialists—had cleared her, they didn’t dare voice another complaint.

Finally, Noelle, emboldened by the way Landon had once indulged her, stepped forward. “Landon, even if Zinnia did everything right during the operation, the experts are saying my brother’s heart clot was caused by insufficient medication after surgery. Isn’t it reasonable for us to question her about that?”
