Time-Limited Love: A Contract Expired, Not Renewed novel Chapter 151

When Landon called him over just to ask this, Charles couldn’t hide a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

How was he supposed to answer that?

He honestly felt stuck.

“Is it that hard to answer?” Landon’s eyes narrowed, the hint of danger in his gaze unmistakable.

Charles hesitated, choosing his words carefully. *Seriously? You’re asking me as if you don’t know the answer yourself?*

He cleared his throat. “With all due respect, sir, you don’t really act like a husband. It’s more like you’re...”

“Like what?”

“Um... more like a boss, maybe?”

Charles pressed on, “Mr. Ford, there’s a difference between how you treat a wife and how you treat your staff. With employees, paying them on time is enough. But with your wife, you need to put in some effort—show her you care. Even a good boss sometimes checks in on their employees’ well-being.”

Landon frowned, confusion flickering across his features.

“But she’s never mentioned wanting that. I figured she didn’t need it.”

*You figured? Really?* Charles held back a groan. *If this keeps up, maybe I should just quit.*

But the generous Ford Group paycheck was enough to keep him in line.

“Sir, haven’t you heard there’s a difference between someone asking for something and you offering it first? The meaning isn’t the same.”

“Isn’t it?” Landon looked genuinely lost.

After a moment, he waved Charles away. “That’s enough. Go take care of what I asked you to do.”

Charles nodded and slipped out, silently exhaling in relief.

*So this is what teachers feel like dealing with hopeless students,* he thought. *Exactly this kind of helplessness.*

Just then, his phone rang.

It was Juniper.

A flash of irritation flickered across Landon’s face, but he answered anyway.

“Hello?”

“Landon, it’s bad—Noelle’s in trouble. Can you come to Veridian University Hospital?”

Juniper’s anxious voice crackled through the line.

Landon’s brow furrowed. He recalled the online rumors about Noelle and asked quietly, “What happened to her?”

“People online are calling her all kinds of things, accusing her of trying to wreck your marriage with Zinnia, saying she’s some sort of—some sort of obsessed fan. I don’t really get it, but anyway, Noelle’s really shaken up. She lost control, and we had to take her to the hospital. She keeps asking to see you.”

A wave of frustration surged through Landon, rising hot and fast in his chest.
