After asking that question, he let out a self-deprecating laugh. “Yeah, makes sense. She likes him so much—of course she’d introduce him to her friends.”
His gaze locked onto Chandler, eyes cold and searching. “Was it Zoey Stuart who told you?”
Chandler was silent for a moment, his expression a tangled mess of emotion.
It was the first time he’d seen someone practically volunteer to be the fool in their own marriage.
Seeing the complicated look on Chandler’s face only cemented Landon’s suspicions. The knot in his chest tightened.
Chandler idly toyed with his phone, an impish, almost malicious grin playing on his lips. “My wife doesn’t talk to me anymore. I saw it on her Instagram.”
Landon lifted heavy eyelids to glare at him, a bitter smile tugging at his mouth. “So you’ve just given up? Zoey’s posting pictures of other men and you don’t even care?”
Chandler shrugged. “What’s there to care about? That Dapper guy is pretty charming, honestly.”
Landon fell silent, feeling not just betrayed by his wife, but stabbed in the back by his friend as well.
He reached for the whiskey bottle on the coffee table and took a long swig.
“Landon, take it easy. That’s strong stuff, man—don’t down it like that,” Connor quickly interjected, worried.
“Oh, come on! I thought it was something serious. So what if Zinnia’s got a boy toy on the side? You’ve got Noelle, don’t you? Happens all the time in our circles. Who here doesn’t have a lover tucked away somewhere? Why get so worked up? It’s not like Zinnia stopped you from keeping Noelle.”
Everyone fell silent.
Landon’s hand froze mid-drink.
His eyes, red from the alcohol, bore into Connor with such intensity that Connor squirmed in his seat.
“L-Landon, why are you looking at me like that?”
“You really think Noelle is my mistress?”
“Huh? Isn’t she?” Connor scratched his head, genuinely puzzled. “I thought you were just keeping her around under the pretense of being her brother. I mean, you definitely don’t treat
He genuinely believed it was normal for people in their social class to keep lovers.
Arrow, sitting nearby, patted Connor on the shoulder and shot him a sympathetic glance. Lowering his voice, he leaned in and whispered, “Everyone thinks it, but you’re the only one dumb enough to say it out loud. How’s Landon supposed to save face now?”
“Landon’s never tried to hide it. I just thought he didn’t care what Zinnia thought,” Connor protested, feeling wronged.
“Isn’t there that saying? Starts as friends, then she’s your sister, and before you know it, she’s your sweetheart. Landon’s just one step away from the full set.”
Arrow just stared at him.
Did Connor really think whispering like that meant Landon couldn’t hear every word?
What an idiot.
No wonder Ruby only ever used him for his money, and he still goes around calling her “baby.”
