Landon tapped on the user’s avatar and followed the link to their Twitter page.
At the top of the feed, there was a pinned video.
In the clip, a small golden retriever was creeping along the wall, moving nervously. Whenever someone passed by, the puppy tucked its tail tight, looking terrified and heartbreakingly pitiful.
It kept inching forward, until a middle-aged couple came walking toward it.
Both looked upset; the woman’s face was twisted in anger, and she seemed to be shouting about something. But since the video was shot from a distance—probably from a dashcam—it was impossible to make out what she was saying.
As the couple passed the puppy, the little golden stopped and pressed itself against the wall.
That’s when everything went wrong.
The woman spotted the dog, and—out of nowhere—kicked it hard. She spat out another curse.
Terrified, the puppy cowered in the corner, shaking so badly it looked like it might collapse. Its eyes were wide and pleading.
But the woman wasn’t finished. She grabbed the puppy by the scruff, lifted it clean off the ground, and marched a few steps to a storm drain.
God knows where she got the strength, but she managed to wrench open the heavy iron cover. Without a second’s hesitation, she tossed the puppy in.
The cover was solid and weighty, yet she slammed it back into place with surprising ease. Then, as if she’d just accomplished something satisfying, she brushed off her hands, turned, and strode away without a backward glance.
All the while, the man beside her did nothing—he didn’t join her, but he didn’t stop her either. He just watched with cold indifference, as if this was someone else's problem.
The video exploded online within minutes.
The comments were flooded with outrage.
He blurted out the curse before he could stop himself, right in front of Mr. Ford.
“What kind of psycho does that to Dapper?!”
Landon shot him a cool look. “Make sure this video is taken down everywhere.”
“Take it down? Why? Shouldn’t this maniac be publicly shamed?”
Wait—was this woman someone Mr. Ford knew? Was he protecting her?
Charles eyed Landon suspiciously, hand on his chin.
But Landon, oblivious to the look, just said seriously, “My wife would be upset if she saw it.”
Well, well. The boss really had changed. After all the things he’d put Zinnia through, he’d never once seemed remorseful—and now he couldn’t even bear the thought of her being sad for a moment.
