Thinking of this, Landon couldn’t help but let a small smile tug at the corner of his lips.
His gaze drifted back to the proposal for the ski resort.
This one. That was the decision.
After settling on the plan, he hesitated for a moment before sending Zinnia a message—
*Are you on call this weekend?*
He waited a long time for a reply, but none came. Disappointment crept in, though he didn’t press her further.
It wasn’t until five-thirty that afternoon, as Zinnia was just stepping out of the operating room after a major surgery, that she finally saw Landon’s message from earlier.
She considered for a moment before replying—
*I’m off all weekend. I can take care of Dapper myself, so you don’t need to trouble yourself.*
After sending the message, she headed to the doctors’ locker room to change before going home.
She had barely changed when Landon’s reply came through.
*I’ll bring Dapper over to you in a bit.*
*Thanks, that’s really kind of you.*
*You’re my wife. You don’t need to be so formal with me.*
Zinnia read the WhatsApp message, lips pressing into a thin line as her brow furrowed. In the end, she slipped her phone into her pocket without replying.
Meanwhile, traffic crawled along the inner city ring road, cars stacked bumper to bumper.
Inside his Bentley, Landon stared at his phone. Dapper sprawled across the plush leather seats, gnawing on a little rubber ball.
Since he’d sent that last message—“You’re my wife”—Zinnia hadn’t replied.
She pushed the thought aside and picked up her pace.
Landon beat her there. By the time she stepped out of the elevator onto her floor, he was already waiting at her door, Dapper in his arms.
At the sound of the elevator, Landon turned, giving her a warm, easy smile.
“You’re back.”
Dapper’s eyes lit up at the sight of her, and he squirmed, eager to leap from Landon’s arms.
“Easy, Dapper. Settle down, buddy.” Landon’s voice softened, gentle and reassuring.
He’d always claimed to hate anything fluffy, but now he bent to press a light kiss to Dapper’s head, trying to calm him.
Zinnia paused in surprise, watching him with a flicker of disbelief in her eyes.
