“Back then, I already thought it was strange. Her brother had just undergone a major heart surgery—spent twenty out of every twenty-four hours drifting in and out of consciousness. Where would he even find the energy to harass a nurse?”
“Officer, arrest this shameless tramp already. @Veridian City Police.”
…
Noelle had been terrified the moment Quade released that recording.
Still recovering in the hospital, Xander turned ghostly pale when he saw the scandal all over the internet.
He’d always believed he’d done right by his little sister. Sure, they didn’t share the same mother, but since his stepmother had raised him from childhood, he’d truly loved Rosalie like a real mom. Noelle wasn’t his full sibling, but he’d always doted on her with all his heart.
He never imagined that his own sister would throw him under the bus just to steal someone else’s husband. In fact, Xander figured even total strangers got better treatment from her than he did.
And their father—how could he have kept something this serious hidden from him? Not a word mentioned, ever.
Propped up in his hospital bed, Xander stared blankly at the wall. For a fleeting moment, he wondered if he was really his father’s son after all.
Meanwhile, the Jensen family household had descended into absolute chaos.
Rosalie had been arrested. Infinity Structures Inc. was teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, and over the past few weeks, Juniper Jensen’s hair had gone almost entirely white from stress.
As if things weren’t bad enough, now the nurse’s son had exposed Noelle’s scheme—she’d nearly gotten her own brother killed. As the mastermind behind a deliberate assault, Noelle was now facing a public prosecution. Even if Xander, the victim, chose not to press charges, the district attorney would follow through. Prison was unavoidable for her.
In the past, Landon might have pulled some strings—maybe made things easier for Noelle, or at least shortened her sentence.
Juniper’s temper snapped, and he slapped Noelle hard across the face. “I must have lost my mind, marrying that foolish Rosalie and bringing a useless, spiteful child like you into the world! Don’t even think about your brother signing that paper. You can rot in jail!”
Noelle’s face went chalk white. She stared at Juniper in disbelief, unable to process that these words had come from the father who’d always doted on her.
“Dad, are you abandoning me?”
“If you hadn’t kept provoking Zinnia over and over, we could’ve lived easy for the rest of our lives—thanks to Landon owing us for saving him. But no, you just had to throw yourself at him. He turned you down, and you still kept stirring up trouble. Well, now look—everyone knows you tried to frame Zinnia. You think Landon will ever forgive you?”
Juniper’s rage only grew; his face had turned crimson.
“You’d better make peace with prison and hope that, by the time you’ve paid for your mistakes, Landon will show mercy and spare Infinity Structures Inc. from total ruin.”
