To Marry A Monster (by Brey Mitchell) novel Chapter 219

BETA WILLIAM SORRO Nightfall Pack

Is everything prepared?William asked, without looking up from the papers spread across his desk.

The candlelight in his study made the shadows long, stretching over shelves filled with old ledgers, treaties, and records that used to mean stability. Now they felt like proof of decline. The Nightfall crest stamped into wax seals looked worn even when it was fresh, as if the pack itself had lost the weight behind its name.

Renan Hale stood behind him, close enough to be useful, far enough to never look like a threat. Since the Alpha fell into his coma, Renan had become the hand that kept doors opening and mouths shut, even when the pack’s spine was cracking.

Yes,Renan answered. I informed the guards at the border. The watchers along the old road have also been told to stay sharp. The others already know that Lady Atasha is arriving and most importantlyI have invited some representatives from the other packs to witness the lady’s arrival.”

William’s pen paused.

Atasha.

Even after all these years, the name still carried a strange taste in his mouth. Atasha the wolfless daughter of the Alpha. Obviously, for someone like him who knew the truth, Atasha is nothing but a burden.

Sadly, when Atasha left, the pack began bleeding in ways no healer could stop. It started slow Goddess herself decided the debt was overdue.

His son died.

The Luna died.

Their Alpha collapsed and never woke again.

The pack that once stood firm enough to challenge neighboring territories now struggled to maintain control of its own borders, and William had spent too many nights watching strong men whisper in corners like frightened servants.

In the end, they had no choice but to let Celeste visit the north to seek Atasha’s help, hoping she could somehow convince her husband to send more people here.

Then Celeste’s letters arrived.

He had read the first one with a tired patience, expecting grief, complaints, and the usual southern drama Celeste always wrapped around her words. Instead, he found something that made his fingers tighten around the parchment..

Celeste wrote about Atasha’s gift.”

She claimed the North had given her something, a blessing, a power. She described it like a miracle, like an impossible thing.

William had scoffed at first. Every werewolf healed fast. It was their nature. Even a deep wound closed quicker than a human’s, and pain was just another part of living with claws and fangs.

He had dismissed it as exaggeration.

Then the next letter came.

And the next.

Chapter 219

Celeste stopped writing like a girl seeking attention and started writing like a witness.

She described Atasha touching wounded soldiers and scaling torn flesh with her palm. She described blood stopping as the body had been commanded to obey. She described herself being healed after taking a knife, the wound closing so cleanly it left no scar behind, as if the blade never entered her.

The words had bothered him more than he wanted to admit.

Because Celeste might be dramatic, but she was not stupid enough to invent something that could be tested the momen Atasha stepped into Nightfall territory. If she lied about this, she would be exposed immediately, and Celeste did not m plans that were fragile unless she believed she could control the outcome.

William’s eyes lifted slowly, landing on Renan’s reflection in the dark glass of the window.

The pack needs something to change,William said, voice low. We have been losing for too long.

Renan hesitated, then asked what he clearly wanted to ask all night. Are you certain this is real?he said. Her healing, I mean. Because if it is not, and we move against the North based on a rumor, we will start a war we cannot win.

William’s mouth twitched, but there was no humor in it. It does not matter whether it began as rumor,he replied. Cele says she saw it repeatedly. If she is lying, Atasha will expose herself without trying. If she is telling the truth, then we have been handed the most valuable advantage this pack has seen in years.”

Renan’s gaze tightened. You heard she is not traveling alone,he reminded him. There are lieutenants from the North. Those people are barbaric. They do not negotiate the way we do. If something happens, they

without hesitation to protect their consort.”

William leaned back in his chair, letting the wood creak under his weight. He steepled his fingers and stared at the flame dancing on the candlewick.

That is exactly what we are banking on,he said.

Renan frowned. Banking on them slaughtering us?

William’s eyes sharpened. Banking on movement,he corrected. Banking on chaos. Banking on the fact that when blades start swinging, the North will show its teeth, and every person watching will remember what kind of beasts they are.

He let the silence sit long enough for Renan to understand that William was not speaking only about fear. He was speaking about purpose.

Then William tapped a finger against the desk, once, as if counting. Celeste already did her part,he said. The Demon Fangs have ears everywhere. If they heard the consort is walking straight into Nightfall territory, they will come. They will not resist that kind of prize.”

Renan’s jaw clenched. So you leaked her route on purpose.

William did not deny it. He didn’t need to.

His gaze slid to the side, toward the wall where a map of the territory hung, marked with old routes and borders that had changed hands more times than any pack admitted out loud. He didn’t have to point it out for Renan to follow the thought.

An attack would force the northerners to fight.

A fight would thin their escort.

And the fewer northern blades standing between Nightfall and Atasha, the easier it would be to shape what came next.

Renan looked uneasy, but he didn’t interrupt.

William’s mind drifted back to the real reason his patience had run out. Nightfall could not afford another lossthat was framed as fate. They needed something they could hold, something they could use, something that could restore fear and loyalty in one stroke.

If Atasha truly could heal like Celeste claimed, then Nightfall didn’t just need her back.

Nightfall needed her controlled.

Renan spoke again, quieter this time. And if the Demon Fangs succeed in taking her?

William’s expression barely shifted. They won’t.Then, William’s voice lowered, the words turning colder. You have seen the target this time,he said. Make sure she dies in this attack.
