Chapter 173 Amalie
“Be careful,” I tell Rose as I hand her and sparkler. Well, more like I hand it Mark as he has his hands are over Rose’s. Rose smiles brightly as she and Mark start to wave around the sparkler. I’m about to have a mini panic attack when, Cal wraps his arms around me again.
“He won’t let her get burned,” Cal assures me.
I want to believe him, I do. But a burning sparkler that close to my baby’s tiny fingers has me worried.
“Come on, let’s go find our seats for the show,” Cal says, trying to distract me.
The celebration has been great. The whole pack turned out for the cookout. Many people brought side dishes to share with everyone.
I got to watch Vickie tote around Rose and introduce her to new kids.
Rose was so excited to make new friends. There was one little boy that Rose practically dragged all over the picnic area for over an hour. She introduced everyone to her new friend Zackery. The pup’s parents came over and introduced themselves to me. Aiden and Nicole are a lovely couple and asked if Rose
would like to come over for a playdate in the future.
Cal leads me to where he and Mark laid out a blanket on the ground. Kim and her mate Ben are a few feet away from us. Vickie is cackling as she chases around a few of the older kids, playing tag. Jimmy sits on their blanket watching his mate fondly.
Kira and James are sitting beside our blanket. James has his mouth glued to Kira’s neck as they are relaxing. She tries to give him a look, but does not push
him away. We make eye contact for a second before she blushes, breaking eye contact.
I chuckle and bury my face into Cal’s chest. With a chuckle he places a kiss on my hair and has us sit on the blanket.
“Today was nice,” I say with a sigh and smile.
“It was,” Cal agrees.
“Hey Alpha, when does the show start?” a tween asks as he jogs over to us.
“As soon as the sun goes down and our Beta stops attacking the neck of his mate,” Cal says with a smirk.
“Beta, can I help set off the fireworks this year?” an older teen asks as he practically comes to a skidding stop. He bounces from foot to foot as waits for his
answer.
“You’ll have to ask Zane, he’s in charge this year,” James says as he removes his mouth from Kira’s neck long enough to answer the teen.
“Aw man, Zane will never let me help,” the teen grumbles.
“Stop whining Matty,” James laughs.
“But I want to help,” he continues to whine.
“You want to set something on fire, you pyromaniac,” Mark laughs as he joins us on the blanket with Rose.
“Mommy you see me?” Rose asks as she jumps into my lap.

Chapter 173 Amalie
“I did. Did you have fun?” I ask her.
“Bestest fun,” she tells me as she snuggles into me.
“Today has been the best 4th of July celebration,” Vickie says as she plops down on the blanket beside me. She leans her head onto my shoulder. “You
good?”
“I’m okay,” I tell her.
She nods her head before she lays down and rolls herself over to her mate. Vickie continues to roll herself across the ground until her body rolls into Jimmy’s side. She lets out a laugh as she looks up at him. “Hi,” she says, a little breathlessly.
“Hi,” he says with a laugh as he looks down at her. Jimmy pulls her into his lap and starts to kiss her.
Vickie wraps her arms around his neck, and the pair starts to make out.
“I thought this was supposed to be a family friendly event?” I ask with a stage whisper, knowing full well that the pair can hear me.
“Keep it PG,” Mark laughs to the crowd of mates all making out.
There are chuckles as those not with their tongues down someone’s throat are able to respond. Those that are trying to shove their tongues down their mate’s throat throw a finger in Mark’s direction but break apart.
“When is the show supposed to start?” I ask as I look around.
“In a few minutes,” Cal assures me as he pulls me closer to him.
“Brought these,” Mark says as he pulls out a pair of headphones. He puts them on over Rose’s ears.
I sigh with relief. I did not even think about how loud it was going to get with the fireworks. Goddess, I’m an idiot. Rose hates loud noises. I was so excited for her to see them for the first time, I completely forgot about how loud they were.
“Mommy, lookie!” Rose shouts as she points to her earmuffs.
“I see,” I tell her. A look passes over her face. I take her into my arms and slide them off. “It’s okay, they muffle the noise. It’s going to get loud.”
Rose slides her earmuffs back down and smiles. She climbs into Mark’s lap to make herself comfortable,
The sun sets and darkness falls over the pack lands, More pack members join us in the open field as we wait for the show to begin. A few other pack members smile and wave at us as they settle down.
