Lola crouched in the shadows near the Fuller estate in Brindley, her mask concealing most of her face.
She had nowhere left to go. Though the Miller family hadn't gone to the media about her impersonation of Quake, they had effectively blacklisted her.
Jobs were out of reach, and public transport was impossible.
She couldn't get home, and even if she could, what would it change?
Her face was ruined. The abuse she suffered in Moriane had made her miss the best chance for reconstructive treatment. Her chin was crooked, and her skin was scarred and pitted from burns.
Worse, she had lost three fingers.
Why three?
The people in Moriane claimed Quake had beaten them three times, so they were taking three of her fingers.
Even if she wasn't the real Quake, she still had to bear their wrath.
Lola had planned to use the chance to get close to Zayne and make her way back to Clifford's side, but after days of waiting, she hadn't seen Zayne even once.
Suddenly, a cold male voice sounded behind her. "Lola, is that really you?"
A chill ran down her spine. She spun around in shock to see two burly men standing there as if they had appeared from nowhere. Their faces were menacing and brutish, and it was clear they couldn't be trusted.
Lola scrambled to her feet to run, but the men were faster. In an instant, they pinned her down, leaving her no chance to escape.
"Lola," one of them said. "Mr. Miller has ordered you to come with us and answer for being a homewrecker and for the pregnancy as well."
Panic surged through Lola as she struggled, but her strength was no match for the two men.
They threw her into a sack and shoved her into the waiting van.
Lola's heart sank. She was done for.
Asher would never let her escape. She would be a stain in his reputation forever.
Just as the van drove off, Clifford stepped out from the villa.
A cold, calculating smile played at his lips as his eyes remained fixed on the retreating vehicle.
…
Noelle's body ached all over. Just as she tried to swing her legs out of bed, Hunter wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her back into his embrace.
His voice was low and husky. "You're not going anywhere."
Noelle pushed gently against him. "I'm hungry. I need to take a shower first."
Only then did Hunter reluctantly release her.
She could tell he was still inexperienced. It took them two tries last night to get it right. He had been just as clueless as any inexperienced young man.
But after she'd guided him a couple of times, his skills in the bedroom improved rapidly.
What followed was an endless craving for more.
