Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 134

Lying in bed, she tossed and turned. A moment ago, she'd been dead tired, but now sleep eluded her.

Staring at the ceiling, her mind began to wander uncontrollably. She found herself thinking about Linton’s last few mumbled words. They were too faint to decipher completely, but she could just make out one phrase.

“Liliana...”

He had said her name with a mix of intimacy and reluctance, heavy with longing. But he was drunk; how much of it was genuine?

As she thought about it, her nose began to prickle with a strange stinging sensation. She didn't know why—maybe it was the pregnancy hormones—but her emotions felt completely out of her control. She suddenly felt an inexplicable urge to cry.

Sniffling, she irritably pulled the covers over her head, turned her back to the bedroom door, and forced herself to sleep.

In the hazy depths of her dreams, Liliana thought she could finally make out the last thing Linton had said when he’d shown up drunk at her door, begging her to take him back. She couldn't hear the exact words, but the gist was—

“I’m so glad I was born and got to meet you.”

Even in her sleep, Liliana couldn't help but scoff. There was no way the proud and lofty Mr. Cooper would ever say something like that. He was too stubborn, his pride too immense. She must have misheard.

Overcome with drowsiness, she couldn't summon the energy to think about it anymore. She soon drifted off, pushing the little incident to the back of her mind.

The next morning, Liliana was woken by her alarm. She yawned, rubbing her sleepy eyes as she scratched her head and got out of bed to get ready.

While eating breakfast, she wondered about the jerk from last night. She hadn't done anything for him; surely he couldn't have actually slept on her doorstep all night.

He... probably didn't, right?

Once he realized she wasn't opening the door, he would have slunk away on his own. Liliana tried to reassure herself, but a knot of uncertainty remained in her mind. After finishing her breakfast and cleaning up, Liliana prepared to head to the office.
