The man paused, then answered without hesitation. "Victor Nightfall."
"What is Edward Nightfall to you?" Liliana pressed, studying his familiar yet strange face for any crack in his composure.
But the man's expression was placid, betraying no hint of alarm. "He's my brother," he said calmly. "We share the same parents."
Liliana's eyes flickered. It was just as she had suspected.
She instinctively tightened her grip on the fabric of Linton's suit, drawing courage from his presence. "You were checking the room's security, so why was the signal blocked? My phone couldn't send messages or make calls just now."
Victor offered a smooth explanation. "There might be an issue with the hotel's equipment. I'll have someone look into it. My apologies, Miss Hart, for the poor guest experience. We will certainly improve our equipment management in the future."
His excuse was flawless. Not a single hole or inconsistency, perfectly reasonable. And yet, it only made Liliana feel more uneasy. The whole situation felt wrong, so deeply strange it made her skin crawl.
She lowered her eyes, her pale lips trembling slightly. "What's the name of your security company? I might need your services in the future. Do you have a card?"
"Of course," Victor nodded, retrieving a simple white business card from his jacket pocket and handing it to her. "Here is my contact information. If you require our services, Miss Hart, feel free to call me anytime."
Liliana took it, her expression calm, and glanced down. The name on the card was indeed Victor Nightfall, and it listed an international security firm.
