Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 196

Linton took a sharp breath as his heart began to ache again, a tight, constricting pain like a thousand tiny needles.

There was one thing Linton had never told anyone.

For all these years, when he was with Liliana, he had always felt a sense of inferiority.

It was an deep, unshakable feeling of inadequacy that rose from his very bones whenever he saw her bright, sunny smile.

Linton lowered his lashes. After a brief silence, he delivered a cold warning. “I will handle things in Crownport. Right now, Isabella is missing, and she’s a suspect in Matthew’s murder.”

“If that’s true, the Cooper family’s debt to her is paid. The family doesn’t need you anymore. You can go back to whatever hole you crawled out of.”

Damian let out a derisive laugh. “When you decided to return the Cooper family to me, did you really think I would ever give it back so easily?”

“Face reality.”

Damian’s voice was as sharp as ice, utterly devoid of emotion.

“You’re cornered. If you want to protect Liliana, you’ll do as I say. Cut all ties with her and accept the marriage I’ve arranged for you.”

Damian was deliberately pushing Linton to the brink.

The Cooper family did not need an heir with a weakness. His son did not need a vulnerability, and he certainly did not need love.

Linton slowly lowered his head, and after a moment’s silence, he said suddenly, “Father.”

“Have you ever considered...”

“...that your son might be hopelessly in love?”

Damian was speechless.

For a moment, he was stunned. A crack appeared in his perpetually cold facade, a look of sheer disbelief crossing his face. He was so shocked he thought his ears were ringing.

For one fleeting second, Damian felt as if his world had collapsed.

His son...

Was a lovesick fool?!

Damian was about to speak when Linton cut him off, his expression flat, his voice like steel.

His eyes held a simmering fury. “Don’t misunderstand. This is a warning.”

“If you so much as lay a finger on Liliana, I won’t hesitate to put you in prison.”

Linton’s handsome face was contorted with a chilling ruthlessness.

Damian paused, his tone hardening. “Then let me give you a warning in return.”
