In the middle of the supermarket, Liam Grayson looked at the gloomy man standing before him and suddenly broke into a grin.
"Move," Liam's voice was light and dismissive.
Linton stood tall and imposing, his hands tucked in his pockets. His eyes were brimming with suppressed fury. "Stay away from her."
The words were rasped, almost forced from his throat.
Liam narrowed his eyes, letting out a low chuckle. "Linton, in what capacity are you telling me to stay away from Liliana? As the scumbag who broke her heart? Her ex-boyfriend? Her ex-fiancé? Or just... a monster?"
Linton's eyes glinted, but he didn't rise to the bait. He stared coldly back, a sneer on his lips. "Don't try to provoke me. Your little mind games don't work on me anymore."
Linton was perfectly calm now. He had decided to start over, to win Liliana back. And if he was going to start over, he had to change. The mistakes he had made in the past were ones he would die before repeating.
Liam watched the cold, somber man before him, his eyes deep and inscrutable, hiding emotions no one could fathom. The two men locked gazes, an unspoken challenge passing between them. Neither was willing to back down. The air grew thick with tension, crackling with the threat of an explosion.
After a long moment, Liam lazily lowered his gaze and scoffed. "Linton. You had her, and you didn't know how to cherish her."
"But that's okay." Liam released his shopping cart and slowly strolled over to Linton, a smile playing on his lips. His voice was a soft, deliberate drawl.
His sensual lips parted as he spoke each word with pointed significance. "From now on... I'll cherish what you threw away. Liliana deserves better."
Linton suddenly laughed, his deep eyes filled with a certain disdain. "You think you're worthy?"
Liam didn't get angry. He kept smiling, his tone nonchalant. "More worthy than the heir of the Cooper family, wouldn't you say? You're the one who lost her, after all."
"Mr. Cooper," Liam repeated, his lazy smile not reaching his eyes. "People who break a true heart... they deserve to swallow a thousand needles, you know."
Linton's cold eyes bore into him, his deep gaze suppressing a storm of violent rage that was threatening to break free. He ran his tongue over his teeth and sneered softly, "My business with Liliana has nothing to do with you."
