Liliana found herself holding a hand of cards, her brow twitching. She honestly had no idea how things had devolved to this bizarre point.
“Pair of threes!”
“Pass.”
“Ha, you can’t even beat a pair of threes?” Liam clicked his tongue, a grin spreading across his face as he looked at Liliana. “Your turn, my dear.”
Liliana’s mouth hung open slightly. She ran a hand through her hair, completely flustered by the surreal scene. “Wait, no...”
What was wrong with these two? Were they insane? Why were they actually playing poker in her office?
“Royal flush,” Aiden’s calm voice announced. He smiled. “I win.”
Liam stared at the two useless cards left in his hand, a five and a seven. He pursed his lips and tossed them onto the table in defeat.
He immediately turned his attention to Liliana, his eyes wide and pleading like a puppy’s. “Liliana, I’m hungry,” he said in a sweet, coaxing tone. “Let me take you out to eat.”
Liam stood up, intending to take her hand. Instead, he leaned in, resting his sharp chin lightly on her delicate shoulder. He looked up at her with expectant eyes, begging, “Please, Liliana? Let’s go, just the two of us. We won’t bring Aiden.”
He slowly moved closer to her ear. Suddenly, he blew a soft puff of air against her soft, white earlobe, his deep eyes shimmering with a hidden, heated desire.
