Isabella froze.
She looked up, appearing somewhat wronged. "Brother, what could I have said?"
"I was just standing there chatting with Sebastian. We were talking about you planning to open a jewelry company for Liliana, and I mentioned I was thinking of taking over the abandoned business plan to practice."
"I had no idea Liliana would overhear us."
Isabella sighed, her expression one of magnanimity. "Perhaps Liliana misunderstood," she said softly. "She was probably upset that you were giving me the company she didn't want."
Sebastian shot Isabella a surprised look. When he saw the subtle hint of sadness on her face, his heart softened.
He quickly jumped to her defense. "That's right, Linton! Isabella didn't say anything wrong. It was Liliana who has a huge temper. She was just being jealous and looking for a fight!"
Linton lowered his gaze, silent for a long moment before saying coolly, "That's just how Liliana is. You two should just humor her."
"I know, brother. I never intended to argue with her."
Isabella appeared perfectly obedient and understanding, offering a gentle smile. "It doesn't matter what I do, Liliana will always hate me. I'm used to it by now. It doesn't bother me."
"If she needs to yell at me to blow off some steam, I can just listen."
Sebastian wasn't having it. He couldn't help but complain, "Linton, you really need to get Liliana under control. She's gotten so arrogant and out of hand, she thinks she can do whatever she wants!"
"If you don't rein her in, she'll be walking all over you!"
Linton looked down, thinking to himself that she was already walking all over him every day.
Not that he particularly minded.
He shuttered his expression, his face impassive. "Since the company is in your hands now, manage it well," he said casually.
Isabella feigned a worried look. "But what about Liliana? Won't she be angry?"
Linton thought of how Liliana had been like a little hedgehog lately, always ready with a sharp retort, always looking for a fight.
A wave of irritation washed over him, and his tone grew colder. "Don't worry about her."
