Too Late, Mr. Cooper: Your Bride Ran with Your Baby novel Chapter 83

Liliana froze for a second.

She never expected him to bring up marriage now, of all times.

There was a time she had longed to marry Linton. Right after graduation, she had begged him, pestered him daily to set a date, but he had always remained silent on the matter.

At first, she was hurt. She had demanded to know why he wouldn’t marry her. Each time, he would just smile, press a soft kiss to her lips, and say in that cool, detached voice of his, “You’re still young, Liliana. There’s no rush. When you’re a little older.”

She didn’t understand. She was an adult, a college graduate. She wasn’t a child.

But Linton offered no further explanation, just told her to wait. Wait until she was older, more mature, ready to take on the responsibilities of a family. Then they could consider it.

It had stung, deeply.

But she loved him, so she respected his decision.

Liliana waited for two more years. Two years, and he still never proposed. Not until today, when she was finally demanding to end things, did he bring it up.

She found it utterly laughable.

Her eyes crinkled as a genuine laugh escaped her. “And where were you two years ago?”

“If you had asked me to marry you back then, I would’ve jumped at the chance like a lovesick puppy. But now…”

“It’s too late. I’m not interested anymore. Go marry someone else.”

Linton stiffened.

He told himself she was just lashing out, resentful that he had made her wait so long.

He tried to soothe her. “Liliana, my love, you’re right. It’s my fault. I should have asked you sooner.”

“Don’t be angry that I made you wait.”

Just as he was about to explain, she shoved him away.
