Chapters Twenty-Nine
"Because I was shocked," she snapped. "And even if I didn't physically resist, it doesn't mean I consented. You took something without asking." Asli's heart still simmered with rage, her fist throbbing from the impact.
She had all the reasons to be angry, didn't she? Ahmet took her first kiss and that too without asking. She never imagined how it was going to happen or how she was going to remember it happening but she certainly hadn't dreamed of her enemy leaving that imprint.
His lips, soft and warm, had brushed against hers, stealing a moment she had reserved for no one in particular. Oh, how she hated it wasn't just a brush. fre(e)webnove.l.c.om
His expression softened, a hint of regret creeping in. "Asli, I—"
"Don't," she cut him off, her hand raised like a barrier.
His expression hardened, and the softness erased. "Fine," he spat, his voice low and even. "You want to play it that way?"
He took a step closer, his eyes blazing. "But let me make one thing clear: never speak to me like that again. Or else my people will actually put the picture in the safe." Oh, they were back to blackmailing her. This was why she hated that he stole her first kiss. He! Ahmet! He stole her first kiss.
Asli's hands clenched into fists, her nails digging into her palms. She bit back the retort burning on her lips, refusing to give in to his provocation. The mention of the picture sent a chill down her spine. He knew exactly which buttons to press.
"You're despicable," she spat, her voice barely above a whisper.
He smirked, his eyes glinting with triumph. "I'm just protecting my interests. And you would do well to remember that. How about this? I use the picture for my wallpaper."
"You would not dare!" Asli's face twisted in disgust and something close to fear. Her eyes blazed but he didn't seem to care about her feelings or perhaps reaction.
"Oh, I would," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "And I will, unless you cooperate."
Without thinking, Asli swung her hand, almost slapping him across the face – but he was faster. He halted her palm mere inches from his skin, and her eyes flashed a warning.
He sneered, underestimating her. "Think you can land a slap on my face, Asli?"
Her response was a swift kick to his chest, sending him stumbling back. He recovered quickly, charging at her with a soft punch, almost like an impact a soft knock would leave.
