Chapter Thirty-Five
As if the car could sense her tension and quickly seemed to respond in kind. It took the corners with a precision that human hands could not have achieved. The tires squealed in protest as they pushed the car's boundaries.
She knew these streets like the back of her hand, every alleyway and side street etched into her memory like a map. And she knew exactly where she was headed. She also knew whoever was chasing after her wouldn't know.
But if it were Ahmet, he would know where those streets led to. He had been there before. There was nowhere her father would send men after her and no way her men would follow her in this manner.
And then, in an instant, it looked like it was almost over. Her car flashed across the bridge, then the other one was merely inches behind. It was too big and too clumsy. It clipped the side of the bridge, and the sound of crunching metal echoed through the air as it spun out of control, falling into the river.
She let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. The car, still on Autopilot mode, continued to drive, gently exiting the bridge and onto a busy highway, heading for her warehouse.
She was safe for now. The person driving wasn't Ahmet. She had seen how Ahmet drove. He drove like he owned the street. Like every curve and turn bowed to his command. The driver of the car stalking her couldn't dodge through this bridge when her car challenged its ability.
She tried to find a comfortable position in the seat as she relaxed more into the seat. The feeling wasn't as intense as it was minutes ago. Why was she relaxed that Ahmet wasn't behind this? She could have made a tangible case out of this and took her revenge. Regardless, she was relieved the heat had subdued.
Her eyes drifted closed, and her head lolled back against the headrest. The car's smooth hum and the gentle sway of the suspension seemed to lull her into a state of deep relaxation.
Then suddenly, a slow-burning fire seemed to ignite every nerve in her body again.
