Chapter 75: "I’m her Fiancé”

Chapter Seventy-Five

"Seriously, you have me," Demir repeated himself after she had not responded the first time.

Asli smiled as she remembered how he said those words whenever his other cousins pointed out she was not even the biological daughter of their uncle.

Demir never remained quiet. He never hesitated to tell them off. His tone had always been consistent while his stare was always as if he would kill anyone for her.

Whenever they told her stuff to make her feel out of place, Demir would appear out of nowhere shouting at them.... cutting through the room, and warning everyone not to bother her.

She’d watch the cousins move in their seats, some clearing their throats and others looking away, fearful of what Demir may do to them. He made certain they didn’t irritate her or make her upset.

She worked extra hard to gain her adoptive father’s attention or for him to look at her like he did with his nephews, but Marco never looked at her unless he needed her to follow an order.

At first, she thought it was because she was a female or because she was not his biological daughter but then, she began to think it was because the man was cruel. She told herself that till she believed it was all a parent could ever be.

"Things haven’t changed that much. Your nanny still cooks for you. Her sister has still not recovered from her shock. Matilda has grown but still hiding under your skirt. And then there is you always going about causing trouble. They are being as safe as possible. Yet you, you look unscathed despite your trouble-making nature." It was as if he was teasing, which he was and she laughed.

"Unscathed. Well, some call me Flash. Before you pull the trigger, I’m already gone and have shot you." That was her bragging.

She was no longer the terrified little girl who cried after shooting anyone or anything.

She was not the little girl who needed him to protect her from his cousins. She was not the little girl who wanted to be a part of them anymore.

"So I have heard. I learned top assassins and Mafia bosses call you Lady Boss. I thought I would meet the scariest animal on earth, only to see my little girl." His fingers brushed over her temple, lingering briefly before brushing a loose strand behind her ear.

His eyes explored the newly revealed lines of her face, while his lips pushed together as if memorizing each detail.

’My little girl.’ The words lingered in her thoughts, as they circled like a melody she could not shake. Once, they would have sent a thrill through her, and a lightness in her chest— but that little girl was long gone.

"Well, I can’t deny that I’m awesome but I’m no longer that little girl." She informed him, and his smile grew even wider, and she returned it, even though her words contradicted his.

A tiny shift in the air jolted her senses, indicating another presence. Before she could turn, a voice interrupted her thoughts. "You can actually smile!" Markus’ taunting tone emerged from alongside her, destroying the moment she was savoring.

Her lips squeezed into a narrow line as she glanced his way, and the anger she had forgotten about, quicked in— because seeing him reminded her of his stupid cousin.

"Who are you?" Demir questioned and she sighed. Her father had not introduced them yet, she guessed. She didn’t know what to say about him.

For Markus to walk to them and talk to Asli as if she were friends with him, he should at least be important to her or the Villa. Demir’s eyebrow shot up in a questioning form when she didn’t answer.

"I’m Markus. Asli’s fiancee." He extended his hand toward Demir, his movements were casual, nearly effortless.

But as Demir’s gaze dropped to the offered handshake, something in his expression shifted— his eyes darkened, and the edges of his smile slowly disappeared.
